I am in a situation in which I may not be able to finish a masters that I started this past fall. I was accepted to NYU dec 1st (before they were able to even see which classes I was taking for my masters). On my application I have a degree expected, and I completely planned on finishing it, but a personal tragedy and lack of available courses have made this an unlikely outcome.

Has anyone else been in this dilemma with NYU or another school and can shed some light on it? Any insight will be greatly appreciated as I am getting extremely nervous.

You need to contact your dental school ASAP and let them know. They will likely require you to defer your acceptance to the class of D22 as failure to complete state prereqs is generally grounds for being removed from a class. It is much better for you to let them know now that it is to wait and have them find out without you.

Thank you for your input
I definitely will contact them ASAP, but just wanted to gain some insight here first. All my prereqs are completed. It is just my extra masters program that may not be completed

@dayyman you'll be fine, I am in the exact same situation as you. I was accepted Dec 1st to NYU, and I was halfway done with my 1 year masters. Figuring out the numbers to attend to NYU, I concluded it would make more sense to withdraw from my program to save money. I checked with NYU prior to withdrawing and they were fine with it.

Thank you so much for this information. It is quite the relief and I will contact them soon. Look forward to seeing you in august!

As long as your prereqs are done then you are fine. You can leave your Masters and start dentistry.

Edit: Always double check with them. Give them a call.

So sorry about your personal tragedy. Some schools would rescind your acceptance, but it seems like in NYU's case they are okay with it. Looks like you are in luck with NYU!
