Hey everyone,

I have been working as an ophthalmic technician for 1.5 years, 1st year with a general opohthalmologist and recently switched to work with a retina specialist. I work almost 40+ hrs/wk with extensive amount of patient and physician interaction. I did also shadow a family physician for a total of 24 hours over 1 week period.

I don't have that much to say about volunteering however. I volunteered as a tutor to underprivileged children as a freshman in college for about 4 hrs/wk for 3 months.

Does this put me at a disadvantage, or is my clinical exposure enough to offset lack of volunteering?

I would appreciate your comments. I am getting a little paranoid about this now.

So you are working for a paycheck, ~40 hours per week. What are you doing with the rest of your time? Do you have a feeling of responsibility to the community, to be of service those who are in need? If so, how do you serve?

Almost everyone can find 2-3 hours/wk to be of service to the community. (It could be a couple hours/wk or a larger block of time once a month.)

Thanks for your reply. I do have some organizations around me that I am interested in. I will have to go find out more about their volunteering opportunities.
