Hypothetical Situation.

What was to happen if one did not list every post-secondary institition they enrolled in. Perhaps one tooka year off - basically foolin around at a state school and partying - and did not want adcoms to see this. What are the chances that they would find out.

Or if I did report it, do the grades impact my GPA even though they do not count towards a degree of any type?

Thanks

Yes, if adcoms or AMCAS ever find out that you hid the whole truth, you will be put under immediate investigation. The grades from all post-secondary institutions are pooled together for your AMCAS GPA calculation, so yes, including the extra year will impact your GPA. However, the drop in your GPA is not worth being ejected from the application cycle. Many adcoms cross-reference amongst each other and get data about the applicants, and there is always a significant chance that you will be caught.

Then you'd be screwed. Be honest.

Good luck 🙂

I recommend putting everything down, the whole crummy year, and let the gpa do what it will.

It's human nature to want to hide what might make us look less stellar, but schools know we have weird stuff in our pasts (some of us) and these aberational party years are not that uncommon. Just be really honest, say I was a complete goofoff or whatever, and I partied my brains out - say this in your own delicate words - but now I have reformed and learned my lessons and I am a better person for it.

Honesty goes a very long way in this process ... good luck. you're not alone !

I attended community college classes part-time as an 8th grader. I did not get the best grades. I STILL had to send in a transcript and factor it into my GPA. Bummer
