Not looking forward to next semester...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My next semester is just (haha 'just'...makes it sound so easy!) finishing up my PhD and submitting my dissertation....although I do have to take that pesky advanced physio course for UC-Davis. I'm going to have to take it online but I'm thinking of waiting to see if I get an interview first etc. I'd rather not spend the money if I don't have to.

Is Ethics of Harry Potter seriously a class?

I'd take it 😛

We apparently have this Religion and Film class where you get to watch movies like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and analyze the religous aspects of it 😛

YEAH!!!!! I was like easy A here I come. My friend is taking it this semester and loves it, so I was like sure and it covers like two gen eds!!!! So exciting. I saw the books needed and it was all the harry potter books...excellent considering I have them all...lmao

In a previous semester I had taken Fairy Tales...which was awesome because we got to read all the twisted ones and put a twist on it ourselves..I love the fun classes at my school🙂

One of the only fun classes I was able to find was a Music of the World Cultures class. Easy A, and you had to identify foreign instruments by their sounds. Also one of our classes was listening to modern music that was heavily influenced by foreign music styles, AKA The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, etc.

Our first test was over basic, basic musical theory. "Which of these is a whole note?" type of stuff.

Parasitology + lab (I get to do my first dissection on roadkill! So excited!)
Aww....we never got to dissect anything in our parasitology lab. Just looked at slides and gross specimens.

There is an entomology class for forensics though where you get to look at all the parasites who take up home in a pig carcass and then you gotta solve the 'whodunnit' part, but I never got to take that class.

That sounds awesome! I'm just finishing up taking entomology and I absolutely loved it. Our prof told us about how one of the lab instructors did her masters on what types of insects you will see on dead bodies and she used pigs, that she dressed in clothes. Still debating whether to take the next part, which is Insect Phylogenetics and Systematics 😛

I took a Veterinary Entomology class and then a Human Entomology class (was running out of classes to take my senior year lol). For the human entomology, we just had to memorize down to the genus level where as the Phylogenetics class sounds like a bunch of memorizing species. I'd avoid that like the plague lol. I was about to punch King Phillip for his promiscuous ways by the end of that class.

I will be tackling the monster that is Biochem next semester. What should make it even more special is that my O chem classes where 5 years ago and my gen chem classes were 7 years ago (sigh, I am getting old).

I will also be taking speech to meet the public speaking requirement for IA (should they deign to give me an interview that is).

Beyond that I work full time in addiction medicine and part time for a towing company.

Busy, busy even as a part time student only.

I loved my public speaking class. But I love to talk to people, not one-on-one. I'm a much better "performer," but I think since I've started working with vets my one-on-one speaking has gotten better. I still fumble over my words sometimes but that's life I guess. Practice makes perfect. BTW addiction medicine sounds pretty interesting.

Well I'm in Biochem I right now and I haven't had to know anything from Ochem or General Chemistry, which is great because Ochem went in one ear and out the other.

In entomology, we only had to memorize down to the family... and in some cases, we only had to be familiar with superfamilies or the orders.

You should go see Fantastic Mr. Fox. They do a run through of the taxonomy of some mammals. I thought it was sad when I could give the genus and species name of all the animals. Guess we kids are just cool like that

I love taxonomy way more than a normal person should. Maybe I should try out entomology...

You should try the parasitology class at my school... we had to learn around 200 parasites, genus, species, class, subclass, order, suborder and life cycles...it was a pain in the a s s. Even though I hated the class at the time, looking back I am so glad I took it. My favorite parasite... Wuchereria bancrofti....I just love the name.
