Hi, I dont have much experience in pharmacy/ volunteer work.

I have only worked in a supermarket as a stocker/cleaner boy. (basically a low wage starter job) however I did have to help with customers. I worked there for 2 months. I plan on shadowing a pharmacist this summer for 2-3 months as I am entering post-secondary next year. Currently my marks are outstanding and I dont think I will have a problem getting a 3.8+ GPA and 95 PCAT.. I also have fairly good interview/people skills.

Do you think I would get into pharmacy school with that?

No, you will not get in...j/k of course you will get in. Now stop waisting space on this forum captain obvious.

yeah i had ZERO ZERO ZERO pharm experience w/ 3.0 & 98pcat and got accepted a couple places.

Don't trip man. I had simliar stats and only a couple months of volunteering at a hospital pharmacy. So you should be good...Just keep the grades up.

No pharmacy experience, volunteering, or shadowing.
I got accepted to 4 schools with decent GPA and PCAT score.

Do you think I will still get in if I dont volunteer at a pharmacy this summer?

why would you like to take chances??? I would say try your best (school, pcat, volunteer) to make yrself an outstandind applicant....Lots of people out there are very very "good", so just try everything you can, so you won't regret when looking back saying "yep, i should have done more..."..good luck...

I always put it this way... it depends on the person reviewing you. Of course. That's a given. Right?

You should get some experience. Shadow. Do anything. Get experience because how do you know if this career is for you ??

Would you rather accept a..

person with a 4.0 GPA, 96 PCAT and no experience or a person with a 3.0 GPA, 86 PCAT and 7 years experience???? 🙂

I actually live in BC, Canada and am applying to UBC Pharmacy.
Its a 4 year program after 1 year of post secondary. It is the equivalent to a PharmD in the US.
The acceptance ratio is 600:120 (applied:accepted) 200 got interviews, according to 2005 record. thats a 20% acceptance rate. Does anyone have experience with schools in both countries and is this rate similar to your school?

UBC stats for 2006:

Over 700 applicants, 280 interview, 120 accepted.

Somewhere in the sticky thread is a link to school stats. they have ratios of applicants to enrollees. Question for you. Is the class 120 students? Because they will accept more than they have seats for, because many will go to other schools and decline the offer. Depending on how many other schools are in Canada. But taking a guess from memory, in the US, 1000 applicants and maybe 120 seats.

Note that there's about ONE pharm school per province. So far, I've only heard of 8~9 pharm schools in Canada altogether; I'm sure that there are more than nine pharm schools in the US.

As far as I know, this year, they took 120 in total. That could be the final number or something...if acceptance offer is declined, they just move somebody from the waiting list (the total is still 120). The usual number is 145, but last year some students got accepted by mistake. Class capacity is about 145.

Also, a friend of mine said that there were 800~900 applicants this year, I'm not sure if that's true.

0 experience here and I got in 😀

3.6 GPA and I've already forgotten my PCAT score. 80 something I think. 😳

No pharmacy experience, 3.16 GPA, 97 PCAT...got into the 2 schools I applied to UIC and Midwestern-chicago

Canadian Pharmacy schools are hella hard to get into. Especially UBC Pharmacy b/c 1/4 of the kids are using pharmacy as a med school backup plan... sneaky...and there are only 9 in Canada.

Stats for class of 2010 UBC Pharmacy

Average GPA: 3.8
PCAT:89
And on average quite a bit of volunteer work to demonstrate that you care about patients and want to help others (subjective)
