Does not passing a prereq. class affect a person's chances for admissions to an optometry school? If I retake it and receive a higher grade, will both my non-passing grade and the passing grade be incorporated into my admissions GPA??

If failing a pre-req is an isolated incident, it shouldn't be a problem -- just be prepared to explain why it happened at your interview, because it will be in your transcript.

I'm not sure if it is calculated into your admissions GPA -- check out the individual applications of the schools you're interested in to be certain.

Do upper div classes replace lower-div classes for pre-opt admissions? For example, say I don't do so well in my lower-div genetics class but take the upper div genetics class and pass with a high grade. Which grade will be taken into account?

I had my final earlier in the week...hopefully i end up with a B in the class, but I still want a higher admissions GPA and every little class will count.

I am retaking two classes (intro) that i didn't do so well in during undergrad... HOpefully they will see that i am putting effort into improving past grades. As for not passing... i would withdraw rather than get a "D" or an "F", in my honest opinion.

do you think they will over look my grades? i've going through a rough time this quarter...i was emotionally hurt and somewhat angry. at the beginning of the quarter, my bf broke up with me. and things couldn't get any worse...i was relaying a message to my parents and my mom gets pissed because tension builds between my dad and my mom's family. my mom goes and confronts them and they all say I MADE IT UP! my mom then sides with them and says i'm a trouble making and a pain in th butt. i was so freaken pissed. like how could my mom do that to me... She kicks me outta the house. eventhough i have an apartment where i can go to school but i didn't have the money for my rent. i had to find a job quick. i couldn't ask my roomie's parents to help me out...where would i find the money to pay them back...nonetheless i had to find a job and work. i had to put in lots of hours which affected my studies. it still wasn't enough that i had to ask my dad for help...so he's been like helping me out wihtout my mom knowing...life sucked this quarter... my grades are crap. god, i hope my mom cools down and forgets it so i can move back home...

Sorry to hear about all of the crap going on in your life. Try and come out of it stronger and more independent, and it will have been worth something. As far as your grades and classes go, the best thing to do is talk to an admissions rep at the schools you are interested in. They'll advise you on the best way to proceed (ie retake a class, take higher level classes, etc.)

They probably will, but that shows how persevering you have been in getting the pre-requisite fulfilled to the best you can.
