I'm not seeing improvement on my NBME scores even though my UW is showing consistent improvement and I was wondering what you all think needs to change in my study.

nbme 12 - 190 (4/12)
nbme 13 - 194 (5/2)
nbme 15 - 190 (5/9)

After I took 13, I got nervous and ramped my studying up from 8-10hrs/day to 14hrs/day this past week in order to improve.

My study regime is as follows:
2/3 blocks of UW (timed) in the morning with thorough review
~30 to 40 pg of FA after that
sketchymedical
meeting with study group to go over systems in FA every few days

As you might imagine, this is very frustrating to see. My test is on 6/4 and I was hoping to land someone over 220.

Thanks!

If you're improving on UW, your scores could potentially be chalked up to the variability in how hard the different NBMEs are. NBME 15 and 16 were my lowest of all of them, even though I took them in numerical order.

Hi! I feel you... I took NBME 12 4 weeks ago - 190, NBME 16 last week - 194... 🙁 I could use some help as well... I feel awful. Haven't done skin/repro/psychiatry and haven't reviewed CVS/resp for 2 months... Anyway, my exam is almost here and as far as I've noticed people don't really think you can jump 20-30 points in a few weeks... Would appreciate your input as well 🙂 thank you!

How do you get through a "thorough review" of 3 blocks in one day? Two is my max. I read every explanation (even the stuff I get right) and a lot of times I find stuff I didn't think through correctly (e.g. I guessed and got it right). Before I read the answer explanation I look at the answer I chose and I force myself to give a reason for why I chose that answer. I find this helps me see if I really know what to look for.

I started out like you guys

NBME 12 - 190 (4/16)
NBME 13 - 217 (5/01)
NBME 15 - 224 (5/11)

I usually do 2 blocks of UWORLD a day. I read every explanation. For stuff I miss, I write down the entire process of the disease I missed, commit it to memory and file it away so I can try to review it again if I get the chance. Your scores should be improving. I tried to read FA, but it is a waste of time to me...although I did a ton of brosencephalon before dedicated so it isn't exactly foreign to me either. Start teaching yourself why stuff happens, not what.

update:

Waited a while to do another assessment and finally got to NBME 18 today. Scorred a 211 which was a bummer.
I went ahead did my UWSA 1 to simulate a full day and landed a 239

Why would there be such a discrepancy?

It's over predicting, trust your NBME scores and not UWSA. I'm not even doing UWSA2 because I couldn't trust 1 and I'm just going to suck it up and pay for another NBME

update:

Finished up FA and UWorld

I took NBME 17 today and scored a 228

It seems like FA has been really helping me to consolidate the material I learned from UW. Hoping that 17 is a good indicator of the real deal.
