Hi guys. Right now I am in a little bit of a dilemma. Last week I had two interviews for pharmacist positions at Walgreens and at an insurance company for a Managed Care position. I was told at the Walgreens interview that I basically had the job and I was told at the insurance company that I would hear back sometime within the next 2-3 weeks (as of right now that is a half week/a week and a half away since the interview was a week and a half ago). Today I got an e-mail from the Walgreens DM and it was an official offer letter. The letter also stated that as soon as I accept the offer, I would have to undergo a drug test and they would do a background check on me before being officially hired. The thing is, I would MUCH rather work as a Managed Care pharmacist as I have a little bit of experience working in this field. I know that it would probably be a bad idea to accept the offer from Walgreens and then tell my DM shortly after that I got another job offer that I prefer. How exactly should I handle this situation? Should I just not respond to my DM and get back with her as soon as I hear back from the insurance company? Or should I be honest with her and reply ASAP and tell my DM that I do not want to accept any offers until I hear back from the insurance company? I just want to make sure that I do not pis any people off or burn any bridges. Thanks

When do you need to respond to Walgreens by? If the deadline is within the time you anticipate hearing back from the Insurance company during this time, then just wait until then. After you get a response from the Insurance company, then you make a decision.
Good luck!

I would seriously think about the Walgreens offer and make a counter offer. The DM will have to take some time to respond to the counter and maybe by then you would have heard something back from the managed care.

Thanks for wishing me luck. I am not sure if whether or not there is a deadline. It was never mentioned in the e-mail. Do you think that I should send the DM an e-mail and be frank and honest with her or should I just not communicate with her at all until I hear back from the insurance company?

No. When I was in school I was constantly being forced to hear the term "professional". Now that I'm in the real world, it's " you do the best for you". Take the Walgreens job as a back up, once you get the other offer, kindly decline Walgreen's. I'm sure they have a long list of applicants waiting for that spot.

Lol counter offer. Good luck with that. If you do that your offer is as good as gone. Take the Walgreens job now and if the managed care calls back, tell walgreens you're no longer interested. Best case scenario: you got two job offers. Worst case scenario: you ignore walgreens for managed care and don't get it and have no job.

work for walgreens while u wait. once u get the other job, tell walgreens u been with them for a few weeks and realize its not the job for u.

I agree you should take the Walgreens offer until you hear from the managed care place. Managed care is notorioulsy slow and if you even get an offer, it could be up to 30 days before you even start.
I had taken a job I wasn't too fond of and 2 weeks after starting, I was offered the managed care job. I didn't even give my notice until it was official that I was to start. Just because you get an offer in managed care, doesn't mean you get the job. You have to go through the background check which is more in-depth than what Walgreens will do for you. Mine took about 3 weeks for both companies I worked for.

I have to say that my "official" start date was almost 2 months after the initial offer, so don't feel bad about taking Walgreens now and putting in your notice later.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I accepted the offer from Walgreens a couple of days ago. Hope that everything turns out ok.
