I'm in the last part of my Junior year in udergrad going into my senior year next semester and I have done no research at all. I'm interested in Cardiology/Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.

I live in NY and I would like to know if there were any Cardiac related research opportunities available that i would be able to participate in.
I would also like to attend a pre-medical conference if any are available.

I've searched online and haven't found anything, If anyone could help with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Contact a faculty member conducting interesting research at the medical center most closely affiliated with your school.

You might call local hospitals and see if they have a research coordinator. That person could tell you if there are clinical projects being done in the area of your interest that you might volunteer for.

For the most part, research funding goes to medical schools and is staffed by medical school employees, not hospitals/hospital employeess. Do some digging at the medical school(s) closest to where you will be living for the next 6months and determine if there are faculty doing research in the areas of interest to you. Most schools have web pages for each faculty member with descriptions of their funded research, recent publications and so forth. Look not only at the clinical departments (cardiology within the Dept of Medicine and Cardiothorasic surgery within the Dept of Surgery) but consider the basic science departments too for people working with cardiac myocytes, etc.

Keep in mind that cardiology and cardio-thorasic surgery research may include bench research at the cellular and molecular level, use of animal models, and then human subjects reserach. The hoops to jump through before working with human subjects or even data from human subjects can be onerous and given the type of staffing generally in place for human subjects research, it might not be worth it to the investigator.

Also consider looking at diagnostic radiology (including MRI and ultrasound) as it relates to heart disease. You may also find some related work being done in peripheral artery disease and stroke prevention in various depts of the medical school.
