My Step 2 eligibility period ends on March 31, 2005. I have already extended this eligibility once, so I can't do it again. How bad would it look to PD's if I cancelled my appointment and opted to take the test at a later date? Is this career suicide or should I just cram and take the test before the end of the month and risk failure. Just wondering. Thanks for the advice and congrats to all those starting in July.

PDs won't care so long as you graduate and pass Step 2. You will have to pay another $400 to re-register though.

I don't think they'll even know if you cancelled your appointment; I've never seen any notation other than how many times (and the scores) a candidate took their USMLEs when getting a residency application packet.

If you REALLY think you can't pass Step 2 (its not that hard, IMHO) then reschedule but bear in mind there are some programs that will want it for the match, so don't delay too long.
