Not to use word retail in my personal essay, instead use community?

I dont think its the wording thats important, its why you want to do it..

saying the money is good and the job is easy isnt a good idea. They want to hear what motivates you, why do you want to spend the next 4 yrs of your life in school, and the rest of your working life continuing your education in this field?

community=retail, and both are acceptable

i was just saying that I work at a "retail pharmacy", Johnson pharmacy.

It's not called that... but just using that as an example.

When I think of community pharmacies, I think of the independent, local pharmacies that are not run by the major chain's like CVS and Walgreens. I would use community pharmacy if that applies to you though I agree that the terminology isn't critical as long as you get the designation correct in general.

in a pfizer guide to careers in pharmacy (my counselor from school gave it to me and i skimmed through-i wouldnt buy that hah) it refers to "chain drug store" pharmacists. thats probably your best bet
