I need your help please. Is there a notepad program or an analogues program on Mac. I need this for my ERAS application. I have TextEdit, but it won't allow me to save my documents in the .txt format? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know what version of TextEdit you have, but mine (I have OS X 10.4.7) has an option to save files as "Windows Latin 1", with a .txt extension. Should be no problem.
