Who usually writes these for the MSPE? Our school is having us write them and I was wondering if that was typical. It feels very strange to be writing these in third person.

At my school, we (medical students) wrote them ourselves too. I wrote three NC's, one highlighted an academic achievement, the second highlighted an extracurricular activity, and the last one was more of a grab bag topic and I used it to mention one of my hobbies.

This must be something new? Don’t remember this a decade ago.

Pick three things that you want to draw attention to. Or, pick something not on your CV. I have friends who listed non-med school hobbies in which they were accomplished.

It was started with the class of 2018 I believe. 2017 at the earliest.

We wrote them. Get used to doing it. In the future you may even be writing the first draft of your own reference letters.

Smart, cute, and a fan of long walks on the beach.

This method. Since it's written by either you or someone on faculty who wouldn't recognize your face in a police line up, the best option is to go with your Tinder bio.
