Does anyone know the deal about Notre Dame in terms of plans to apply for accred by APA? I notice that they recruited some heavy hitter faculty members recently, but they still haven't applied for accred it looks ilke (from their website at least).

If you apply to a program and are accepted before it's accredited, do you get the APA accred if it is later approved and you are in your 3/4th year?

Looks like a good program!

Notre Dame recently switched from a Counseling PhD program to a Clinical PhD program. Their Counseling program was accredited for many years so I believe they have the tools/means to get accreditation. Enrolling in a non-accredited program does have its risks though!

The program is in the process of being accredited. The faculty at ND are top-notch when it comes to mood disorders esp. depression and on paper have an "all-star" cast. The program should have no problem being accredited during the next couple years and as someone stated, you could graduate with a counseling degree (not ideal) but it should come into motion very soon.

I went to Notre Dame for undergrad and am quite familiar with the all-star cast they have there now. I would not hesitate for one second, they will be accredited. If you can get in, I would go if the mentor fits you. No question. I would have applied to stay there had they had a suicide researcher, but alas, no dice.

I went there for undergrad too. It has been a few years, but some of my fav faculty are still there. They are an awesome crew.

:luck:

Notre Dame's site visit by the APA is scheduled for this month (I think the 15th??). Not sure how long it takes to hear after that, but if it gets through on the first try, it should be accredited before next cycle's applications are due. I will be attending there next fall (and am so excited!), so obviously I was impressed with the program and think they will become accredited soon. I think worst case scenario would be the APA has some minor complaints and the accreditation process is delayed a little, but there's no way it won't be accredited in the next year or two, and I'm guessing this summer (backdated to this month).

I interviewed at 7 programs (all university PhD programs, all accredited aside from ND, some clinical science, some scientist-practitioner). I liked the faculty and environment at Notre Dame the best (not to mention the funding 🙂). If you're interested in a faculty member's research there, I'd definitely consider applying.
