Hey guys,
I'm taking Step 2 in early November and am wondering how important is this score for my EM application? I have a low Step 1 score, but have received a few interviews already. If my score comes out in December, is it going to matter if I just pass Step 2 vs. doing well/improving my score? Thanks!

WEll how low is your step 1 score and how many interviews do you have? It will all depend

I am in same ship and would like to know about effects. I will write step 2 in mid Nov, CK, step 1 scores quite good, gotten about 10 invites so far. Would my CK score matter much as so long as I do not decrease in this writing?

I hear that the improvement will affect rank lists. But you must have something going for you to have gotten interviews with a "low step 1"

As stated above, likely won't matter for interviews, but I have heard that some programs will not rank you until your step 2 is in.

As an EM chief resident I am participating heavily in the app process: step 2 is very important. It won't affect you much if your score goes up or stays the same, but if you drop your step 2 score, even though you already will interview at these places, it will likely drop you on the rank list. Step 2 scores, if available, in my opinion, are almost more important than step 1. If you can increase your step 2 score, and you interview well and have a good SLOR, it can make a huge difference in where you are on the rank list. Good luck.

In light of your "low" Step 1, Step 2 becomes important. You may want to ask the programs who have not received interviews from to re-evaluate your application if your score improves dramatically.

What if you don't have any Step 2 scores in at all? Does that reflect badly?
