Nova acceptance, but weird

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you already interview there? They called me this morning to confirm my interview for next week?

yes interviewed in Dec.

hey, i got a phone call yesterday too...they said we haven't received your deposit yet and i told them i was going to attend their school...then i was depressed for about 10 mins that i just turned down living in beautiful ft lauderdale for 4 years to live in richmond🙁 ooooo well ya gotta do what ya gotta do

ps i dont remember what the letter said but when did they say to respond by? some schools say the 15th and some have been asking for a response by this friday the 12th

no, they called me and said hey you have been accepted, but we need to know if it is a yes to send out the letter. weird

ooo my bad yea that's strange

koochoo - you mean you are not going to attend NOVA?
I think they want to know by Friday so they can send out the letters next friday for the next round of acceptances. Anybody know how many acceptances were sent out Dec. 1st?

uh, is that legal?

so, they want to know via phone call by friday if you will say "yes" if they send you an official letter? 🙄 it probably makes their stats look bad to send out lots of acceptance letters or something.

its just totally unprofessional. we are supposed to get an alloted amount of time arent we?

yeah, AFTER the letter.

it looks like they are trying to figure out who to send letters to in order to insure a higher offer made to acceptance ratio, which is lame 👎

Do schools even publish statistics about that?

I got the same phone call, but since Nova is my #1 choice I didn't really question it. I just got really excited and said yes. Oh well, looks I'll be attending Nova. 😀

got the call too. does taking the spot include putting down the deposit or do we have 15 days? I wasn't clear on the whole situation. The conversation was a bit awkward. I'm stoked though that I got accepted!

i thought each school was legally obligated to give you 45 days

in several of the presentations given at the interviews i went on, i heard about how many acceptances they send out and then how many people generally accept those offers, so i think schools are concerned about it. schools should have a good feel for how many acceptances they need to send out to fill X # of slots, and maybe they think it looks bad if the discrepancy in that ratio increases.

you attend FIU don't you?

I'm not sure about the legality of it. After I accepted, I was told that the paperwork would be sent immediately. so my guess is that the deposit money will be expected in the usual amount of days (varies for each school). For Nova, the website clearly states 15 days. So I think all students who are granted acceptances are entitled to wait those 15 days before making the deposit even after a verbal acceptance.

The schools can do what they want. Typically it goes like this:

Dec letter gives 45 days
Jan letter gives 30 days
feb letter gives 15 days
etc.

But a school can set any response time they deem necessary. We are, for the most part, playing by their rules. 🙂

Yes I do. One of the only non senior officers of the pre-dental club. 🙂

I only applied to Nyu and Nova, and even though New York was nice, I cant picture myself there for 4 years, so Nova it is. Have you made a decision yet?
