Hi David:

I have recently been accepted to Nova & Louisville and i have trouble deciding where to go

One thing that is really making me worry is the fact that NSU student have to take NBD1 at the end of the first year instead of second year.....what do you think? Do you know how many student pass/fail NBD1 last year??? Can you tell me what percent of NSU resident go for Specialty????😕

Also i heard there is so much competition and students don't help each other...is this true?

I was recently accepted as well. I am still waiting to hear from UNC, but right now it looks like I am headed to Florida. I am really nervous about the cost of living. What do most students do as far as where they live? A one bedroom apartment for $1000 is way more than I am used to!!!

I was unable to obtain the scores for the past years. However, I am pretty sure that 99 % of the class passed the boards last year, if not 100 %. We take it after the first year and get the summer to study for it.

There are not many scholarships (if any) that Nova offers that I am aware of. Perhaps if you are a minority student or high need based, you may get something. Also one scholarship may be given based on exceptional academic credentials. Most students take loans. I would also recommend using external sources for scholarships..(Essays, crest.com, etc)

I also found out about this. Nova gives one scholarship. I believe u have to be a minority too to get it. Remember, nova is a new school so not many of the dentists that have recently graduated have made it big yet. Therefore, they are not putting money back into the school yet.

I think it has its pros and cons...The good thing is that you take all of the science classes in the first year, so that when you take the boards in the summer, they are relatively fresh in your mind. The con is that it makes for a difficult first year. But hey, the second year is going to be no where as bad as the first year or compared to second years at other schools! I think almost everyone passed the Boards.

In regards to competition, it is almost non existent. Sure we might have one or two students who are gunning for number 1, but most of us hekp each other out on our class forum and exchange notes etc. We just want to do well and have fun.

All in all, I recommend Nova. ( And i didnt get paid to say that!) lol

Right now it seems the way to go is buying a condo, or renting an apartment around the area with ROOMATES. Most of my classmates used realtors to help them out during the process to locate a relatively inexpensive place or a good deal. I know of a good one too in the area that can help students out.

I would recommend asking questions! lol...I can answer them the best I can and hopefully guide you in the right direction. I also recommend starting a group on facebook called NOVA CDM 2011 or similar and people here can join it. Thats what I did and it worked out great. Also you guys can friend me on Facebook...David Altman

I would hold off on the teeth for now... They are needed mostly second year...Also join a dental fraternity, they have a huge amount of teeth for members.

Dont know any hotels because i drove from my house near the beach.

Cant wait!!!!! Morning surf sesh, then bagels and coffee, then off to anatomy lab in my wet scrubs!!!

Maybe even enough time for a late afternoon surf/paddle before nightly studies and some stir fry!!!

Nova doesnt require you buy the same laptop.....They give you guys all the same one! lol ...You pay for the laptop as part of tuition or something and then you all get the same one at orientation...DO NOT buy a new computer this year lol

Ahh there's nothing better than corned beef on rye from TooJays. Mmm so good.

I also stayed at a house near the beach and caught some morning swells before my interview. I'll be out there with artmed if all things go as planned.

Yea the tour was great.. but I kinda knew where everything was already. I've gone to that campus hundreds of times, esp to talk to Dribin and some of the other professors. Plus I have had family and friends that go there now- one is actually a D2.

Interview was great too- very laid back. Well back to Neuro I go!
