Hi everyone, congratulations to those of you who have gotten into dental school! I would really appreciate any advice you can give me as I prepare for an interview at Nova Southeastern Univ. My interview is next week and I would really appreciate feedback from those who have already interviewed there or are attending there. Thanks!🙂

I recently interviewed at Nova a few weeks ago. I'll give you a recap of what went down.

You check in at the Allied Health building (not the dental school) where you can meet with other dental students, medical students and I think there were a few pharmacy students there for an interview. At about 11:45 AM they called back all the dental school candidates and we had a question and answer session with a dental student. A small snack, "lunch" was provided during the session with the dental student as the whole group was able to ask questions, introduce themselves, etc. We then proceeded to a tour of the school following our snack.

After the tour we had our interviews. I had to wait in the lobby for about 2 hours before my interview because there was only 3 interviewers for about 15 candidates. So each interviewer had to meet individually with about 5 candidates, and I was last. The interview was very chill. I was asked some unique questions such as who would I want to sit next to on my plane ride back to Oregon (can be anyone dead or alive except family) and if I had the ability to whiteout any part of my application to improve it what would it be?

Nova was a bit different than other schools since we never really discussed tuition, financial aid, the school's mission or the curriculum. In all it was the easiest interview I've been to.

For any current or past students at Nova in this forum or thread, can you please tell me of your experience at the school and what you like and dislike about the program and current curriculum?

Also what is unique about the school that distinguishes itself from other dental schools? I have my interview in a few days, but I cannot find any information from the website or the school pamphlet that mentions anything remotely unique :/


Any help would be great!! Thank you in advance.

If you interview with Dr. Lippman, then it should be a fun, low stress conversation. He really likes college football and is, IIRC, a Rutgers fan.

If you interview with someone else, prepare to get grilled.

Honestly, I'm not much help - I don't remember really anything about the school that really stood out. The students seemed kind of zoned out when I was there, which could be due to exams or any number of things so I didn't look too much into it. I didn't get the feeling that I was being seriously considered for candidacy due to the way the interviews played out (I was the only one of five interviewees to not interview with Dr. Lippman), so I kind of put Nova out of my mind quickly afterward.

I do remember that you have to do some clinical work at a prison and with HIV+ patients before graduation, which I thought was a pretty cool way to help out the under-served.

So there were only 5 interviewees each day?? I guess that makes sense if they interview every weekday for months, unlike most schools who only interview once or twice a week.

I was also a post-December interview, so your experience will likely differ greatly from mine.

No, there were 15 each day, Dr. Lippman only interviews 5 of these per day. Honestly, the tour for NOVA wasn't that great, the clinic was darker and more dreary to me than other schools, but had a nice open sim lab. Make sure you ask the students whatever questions you have because this is the only time you can really find out information about the school since they don't give any presentations and the tour was rushed. The interview was extremely laid back ( I had Dr. Lippman) and was 30 minutes long. Super conversational, he never asked me a single question. We talked about how much we both love cruises for the first five minutes of the interview. LOL
