I've been accepted into Nova and Maryland, and cannot decide which school to go to. After going to the interview, it seems like they both have amazing facilities and similar curricula, passing rates, etc.

I am a Florida resident, so Nova will keep me closer to my family and friends, but that's not a big issue for me. I really like that UMB is in an urban setting, and yes, although Nova is in a city as well, Davie is very different from Baltimore. I'm really scared about their crime rates though, and I've heard Baltimore's not a very safe place to live in.

On the other hand, I know Nova is a fairly new school, whereas Maryland is the 1st dental school in the world, so I'm not sure if one school is better than the other. Will Maryland give me better clinical opportunities than Nova? I don't know where I want to practice in the future, so I'm not factoring the state into my decision.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I'm going to apply to Maryland (and NOVA). If I got in to either of them I would choose NOVA. I've been living in Florida my whole life, and I heard that NOVA and its facilities are great. Could you post your stats?

i was accepted to both, and honestly i would pick nova, maryland is probably a better academic program with better facilities (not that facilities matter) with better clinical training..

but nova is in a better location IMO, and that makes all the difference. Go somewhere you'll be happy, you'll be there for four years. Being closer to family will ease the transition, plus still have that "safety net"

my 2 cents

I would say go to NOVA as Maryland is the only school that I have a chance of getting in to because I am on their wait list...not that I am biased or anything like that.

To be honest, I would only go to U of MD if it was my last resort. I lived just blocks away from the college.

The roads are HELL on your car.
Crime is common, just check the Baltimore Blotter.

I am not going to tell you which one to pick because there are a host of factors involved in choosing a school.

As a former Hopkins student, I lived in B-more. They call it "Charm City" but should call it, "Get your car broken into and shot in the abdomen City"

However, you shouldnt pick Nova just because B-more is an S-hole.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the input everyone. I've decided to go to Maryland. I'm just going to pray that I am safe in Baltimore, but I think overall it will be a good experience to get out of Florida for a while and explore. Again, thanks for the help though. I found out from Maryland on March 18th.

You made a fine decision. I'm from south FL and made the transition to Maryland dental (had the choice between Maryland, NYU and columbia.. I didn't even apply to NOVA) and it was the best decision I have ever made. All these haters hating on B'more are nothing more than just that.. haters. I have never felt unsafe in this city. I live within 10 minutes walking. Just don't be stupid and you'll be just fine.

Plus, you'll be within striking distance of DC, annapolis, Philly and NYC.. all of which are a nice escape from B'more.

See ya next year,
Hup

You are correct. B-more is close to a number of good cities. I kicked it in DC a fair amount. Caught a Cubs game in Philly. Took the train to NYC and made out with a plus size chick on Dewey Beach. Hm, all my good times came outside B-more.

If hating a city after living in it makes me a "hater", guilty as charged.

I always thought a "hater" was someone who talks %$@$ out of jealousy or ignorance. I lived the B-more dream for awhile and I do not reckon I am jealous. Although I havent been stabbed in a few months, perhaps I need to make a trip to refresh my memory.

My disdain for B-more has nothing to do with the dental school.
