Hey to all, I'm a freshman at UF and I'm really hoping to go to NOVA for optometry school...but I want to go before finishing my BS degree. I know that almost all of NOVA's optometry students have BS degrees, which is why I wanted some help regarding whether or not it would be a lost cause trying to gauge myself to finish their pre-reqs in three years, and studying for the OAT starting next year and all that stuff...any help would be appreciated, especially if one of you have been accepted to NOVA w/o finishing your BS degree...thanks

I'm not sure, but at my interview, i believe everyone there was in their final year and just finishing off their BS.

I don't know about NOVA, but I was accepted to IU w/ just three years and no BS. It was no big deal, really.

As far as getting in my pre-reqs...
For me it wasn't an issue getting them all completed in three years, but it was about getting in the OAT classes before I took the test. I took it near the end of my sophomore year, while I was enrolled in Intro Bio and O-Chem, had completed Physics the summer before, and GenChem fresh year.

I would have been able to avoid taking physics in the summer if I had planned ahead, but i didn't even declare a major until the end of my freshman year, so I had some catching up to do. If I had taken Bio freshman year, it would have been no problem.

Ya, I don't think I'm going to have much trouble getting the pre-reqs done either. I think I'm going to take the OAT class summer of my sophomore year, and I'll probably take organic II at the same time..as of now I've taken calc, chem 1&2, and bio 1, and english I as far as my pre-reqs go. So if I can't get into bio 2 this summer b (because I will be traveling the first part of summer, and UF usually only offers bio 2 summer c) I will most likely take organic 1, bio 2, anatomy, biochem, and english 2 my sophomore year, and then finish up the physics sequence junior year...so that's basically all I can think of doing right now...however, if anyone has any suggestions of ways to set this up better i'd appreciate it because I'd really like to take the OAT course alone so I can better focus on it....thanks
