Im trying to get a reccomendation letter for nova and it asks that a non science professor write it. I have been attending class that has been taught by a grad student TA for a long time, he knows me well, that being said, should I ask him for a letter? or Is it better to ask a professor?

I'm pretty certain it's better to get a professor to write the letter. It only makes sense that a TA is not a professor... as the requirement indicates a non-science professor. Therefore the TA shouldn't write the letter. I can see your predicament though. Do you not have a non-science professor that you know kinda well?

I've heard that if you do this, you have to have the TA get the prof for the class (or department head or whomever) sign the letter, too.

I had a TA write one of my recommendations and then the professor of the class cosigned it. So, ask the TA and the professor if that is possible. In that way, you can get a TA evaluation which is going to be a lot more detailed since he or she is going to know you better than a professor in a big class...
