Just checked my AADSAS status, and i recieved my first rejection from nova 🙁 I called them to see what the deal was, and they said that my quant. reasoning score and biology gpa was too low for their standards. I had NO clue that dental schools broke the gpa's down by subject😕. I thought it was done by non science, bcp, and science; that's it! Does anyone know if the other schools do such a break down of the gpa's and scores? OH and they said that their average DAT for last year's class was 20AA and 20PAT...is it me or does that class sounds like its filled with a bunch of science badasses...👎

Do you mind saying what your QR score and your Bio GPA are? I got an interview there and I'm guessing my bio gpa would be around a 3.1

Don't worry...You'll get in somewhere...NOVA is just another school...You might be happier in another school...
Good luck

I see nothing under official transcripts and letters of recommendation when I check the status of my application online (NOVA's site)...is this normal?

I can't get a hold of anyone at NOVA either...BTW, no update on AADSAS...any suggestions...any phone numbers that I can call...

i called their 1800 number on their website and went through their automated system. My QR is super low...its a 12 but everything else is good. Bio GPA is like 2.5 but everything else is really good. I am by no means an allstar applicant...i'd consider myself pretty average with a very well rounded resume (dental exp, philanthropy, life experiences, etc) but we'll see. I know people with fantastic grades/scores that get rejected so who knows. I wish they would take the higher of the scores from all DAT attempts. Does anyone know which schools take the highest scores of the DAT?

no offense.... but a 12?!

I got a letter from Nova in August inviting me for an interview in January. My QR score was my lowest which was an 18 and my BCP gpa is 3.76... and I wasn't even on their priority list to interview before December 1st. Sorry about the news 🙁

Yea man...a 12. I was sick as hell and was leaving in the middle of the test to go throw up. Time was running out so i marked C for the rest of the way. I had 18s and 19s in everything else and a 20PAT...so considering all of that, I think i did pretty good. I think nova just has higher standards compared to other schools. The reason i am bummed is who cares so much about math when it comes to becoming a dentist? I mean is a patient going to ask me how old monica is if Jim is 5 years older than dave and dave is 7 years younger than cindy? Something tells me no... 😎

Dental Schools care about the DAT... math and all.

yea well...there should be less focus on that section and more on what really counts (pardon my pun).😛

It seems that they do focus less on that section. It's just that they have to draw the line somewhere.

(I have a 17 QR and 6 interviews, including 1 at Nova 😉)

yea i understand...it just sucks that they dont take the best scores from all the attempts. Does anyone know what schools do that? Oh and nice work blast! That's really awesome....can i ask what the rest of your stats are?😀

i would imagine if schools did that I could take the DAT 3 times and study 2 sections at a time..that would be awesome i would get 30s on every section...2 sections at a time...

I'm not sure which schools will take your best sections but I know it's been talked about on here before. Try doing a search for it. I have a 3.6/3.7 cum/sci and 20/21/18. Good luck!

Well yea but who does that? seriously. There has to be some schools that do take the best scores. Ive even read a few threads on here that mention that schools. I just really wanna get in and don't want to be rejected just on 1 low score. Which reminds me, ive heard that some schools make you retake the DAT to see what you score before they give you acceptance. In other words, they give you acceptenace that is contingent upon your performance on the dat when you retake it. I hope that makes sense 🙄

I know things get more an more competitive every year. But I interviewed there last year in November, and was accepted December 1st, with a 14 on QR.

I guess it just surprising that they are rejecting so early for a score on the DAT. I am surprised that they wouldn't at least recommend a re-take, and put your application on hold for the time being. There were a couple of schools who did that to me last year.

toothfairy, that is awesome! thank goodness im not the only one. Do you mind me asking what your other stats are? I just want to get into a school and start my carrer, ya know? :hardy: Do schools actually recommend a re-take while they are still evaluating you before they make their final decision?!
