nova rural rotations

i hear rural rotations may occur during prime audition rotations time at nova, so how much of a bad effect is this on getting into residencies/other factors etc.? also is it possible nova may allow students to have a say in choosing when they do these rotations in the future?

From what other students have told me, NSU students don't have a say in when they are going to do the mandatory rural rotations; it's assigned to them. I think you can try to change schedules with another student though, although I imagine that would not be an easy switch to make. The impression I'm getting from reading these forums and asking NSU students questions is that if you're going to do primary care the whole rural rotation occurring during audition rotation season isn't too big of a deal (since you've already covered your bases in the core clinical rotations and it's not too competitive), but if you're interested in something outside of primary care, it could be. I myself would like to go back to CA for residency, and I'm thinking it would be in my best interest to do electives out there in order to obtain a CA residency. If the rural rotations fall during audition rotation season, it could be a problem.

If you're going AOA for residency, probably a good idea to do an audition. If you're going ACGME, it MIGHT help you, but it certainly won't hurt you if you don't. There's simply too many applicants for them to bother.
