My ohhh my what a week this has been and it's only the beginning. First of all congrats to everyone out there its a huge relief knowing we will be attending some dental school in 2010.

Ok so this is the rundown got into Nova and Creighton. I am currently at UF in Gainesville FL. Grew up for the majority of my life in FL. I would like to eventually practice in FL. This decision is 10X harder then it played in my head even before I got accepted. My ultimate goal is too be a general dentist and its great to know they are both clinically focused dental schools.

Nova: Great weather, nice facilities, clinically driven, the only thing that keeps me from completely falling for this school is it's reputation. I have heard it once and I have heard it again. Nova aka the slacker school. Nova doesnt graduate competent dentists. The quality of education at Nova is weak. The guy the signs the dental licenses here in the state of Florida told me and my friend to choose any school over Nova and that they are slacking down there. Now I know this is all word of opinion and you shouldn't get caught up in politics but how am I supposed to go on through dental school paying $$$$$ and in the back of my mind recalling what people say about this school. 😕

Creighton: Amazing, very clinically driven, seat implants, no specialties so I will be able to do it all in dental school. The weather ehhhh 😱 Shirts and ties??? c'mon I was looking forward to the scrubs. I liked this school alot and everyone around me my mentors, close friends are all like choose Creighton its a better education and got a wonderful reputation. The change will be good for you your not tied down do it. It sounds good and all and I know 4 years are 4 years weather shouldn't be an issue but my heart is telling me Nova but my head is telling me Creighton.

I know this is ultimately my decision and its better to have a choice than to have found out you only got into one dental school. I want to be prideful about the school I graduate from.

Your thoughts would be amazing let me know if I am over analyzing the situation. I would like to commit by late Dec.

As a florida resident originally, I understand where you're coming from. That is a tough decision to make, so let me present another angle for you. As you probably know, Florida licensure has no reciprocity with any other state, and it is reputedly an extremely difficult exam. You know NOVA will prep. you to pass for Florida, and more importantly, you will have local patients you can potentially use. If you choose an out of state school (as I did w/ Midwestern), you face potential licensure hurdles. At this time, amalgam restorations are on the exam, but MWU does not teach amalgam placement b/c they consider it to be an obsolete restorative material. In addition, I will be scrambling to not only move back to FL after graduation, but find jobs for both myself and my wife, tackle the licensure, find a place to live, etc. And remember, loan repayment begins 6 months after graduation. So yes, NOVA may not be your top choice in some regards, but it is YOU who decides how much you learn in dental school. If they are accredited, then the ADEA thinks they're doing ok. Congratulations on your acceptances, and I wish you the best of luck on your decision.

Im starting to lean towards NOVA in my decision, its reputation is improving i believe, and it basically comes down to what one puts into dental school. And NOVA defiantly has the potential to give you an awesome clinical education. Patients don't care about the school one went to, they care about good dental work, and anyway dentists only use about 50% of what they learn in dental school, the rest is learned through continued education. Also, the ridiculously hard Fl board is easier to pass for Fl students.
Im going to talk to some more dentists and do some thinking before i make my decision. But good luck in your decision and hope you did good on the practical 😉
