Hey guys. I am in the current application cycle and I am fairly new to this forum. I am trying to make back-up plans in case things don't quite work out how I hope they will.
I have been doing some research on Midwestern AZ's M.A. of Biomedical Sciences and Nova's Master of Biomedical Sciences. I am looking to finish whatever program as quickly as I can.
Does anyone have any experience with one or the other that you would share? I realize that I can chose a 9 month program at AZ or a longer one. I have seen other threads that say you can finish Nova's program in one year if you do well the first year, but have not found anything to back that up.
MWU says that they have an 82% matriculation rate, but does anyone know if that is specifically to MWU, or is that to any school?
Is either of the program more respected than the other?
In a nutshell, which option will give me the best chance of acceptance to D-school?
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else. I am still learning about this site. 😀

I do not know anything about MWU but I have applied to NOVA and it seems like a good program. Also, Barry University, Graduate Biomedical Sciences (BMS) program is also a very well known program among the dental schools and very high percentage of students get accepted after finishing the program. Also, if your GPA is 3.0 and above, then request for a one year track program at Barry. (BTW, I just accepted to Barry's). Good Luck

To answer your nutshell question...either options will give you the BEST chance.

I completed the MWU-AZ program, and loved it. It wasn't a walk in the park academic wise, 'cause you push through a lot of material, exams, and classes in 9 months, but it clearly can be done. In regards to matriculation, majority of students (in my cohort at least) do end up at MWU if you applied while your a student in the program, but some students didn't get in at the same time. For the students that waited until graduation to apply (like myself), some get into MWU and other schools, and some haven't (probably safe to say won't by now). Nothing is guaranteed. It would be a plain lie to say if you do either of these programs; you are a shoe in for D school.

In regards to picking one, in my opinion, I would go with the shortest length of program...these courses drain you and the quicker you're done, the better. If the same length, go with which one is closer to home...I moved a cross the US for MWU...wouldn't do that again!

Have fun getting into Nova's Masters program. They accept like 8 students a year and it's sort of a "who do you know" kind of shin dig when trying to get in. I know 2 people in the program right now and it is a GREAT opportunity if you do get in.

I personally did the Barry BMS 1 year track and it worked just fine for me.

How many people from the Barry program got accepted? I realize that there are no guarantees out there, but I am looking at the odds game here. I have looked at the Barry program a little bit, but hadn't heard from anyone who completed it. What did you like most? What did you like least? Do you feel like you got some good contacts/connections out of the program?
Thanks

How many people in the program were dental vs med? I asked MWU and they didn't have those specific numbers for me. Out of the dental guys, how many got accepted to d-school? Did a lot of people get multiple acceptances? How was the faculty at MWU? I have heard nothing but great things about that school, but it is nice to hear from someone who has gone through it.
As far as geographic location goes, I live in Idaho right now finishing up at Boise State. MWU would be much closer for me, but I will go wherever I need to go to give myself the best chance.
Thanks again. PM me if you like.

There were a good amount of pre-dents and pre-meds, I don't know the exact number. Keep in mind there were also pre-pharm, pre-PT, pre-podiatry, etc. MWU wouldn't give you a number simply because they probably didn't know...I know of some people who changed career choices during the program. I do know of someone with multiple acceptances, but thats all I personally know...there were about 70 of us, and I wasn't in everybody's business, so there were probably more. The faculty there are priceless...I could go on and on about them, but believe me when I tell you, they are EXCELLENT! Gold Standard! I would suggest looking into which dental school you would like to attend (either MWU or NOVA) and pick that program because then you will have a step up with that dental school b/c you would already be an student/alumni when you apply at that institution.
