I know these threads will begin to pop up so I apologize for being cliche 🙄

I very fotunately received two acceptances yesterday to Nova and UNLV. I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on which school you'd choose. I won't make a list of pros and cons to keep it short and sweet but here's my thoughts right now: Nova and UNLV both have relatively the same reputation. Nova is a better location being in Florida and right next to the beach. However, I've heard the problems about getting patients at Nova, and whether that's true or not, I guess you can't deny that the patient population in Florida wouldn't be as strong as other places. I also do feel like Nova has more of the college type of vibe. UNLV is not as good of a location as Florida but I feel like you'd have more/lower income patients there (better cases). The big thing I like about UNLV is the cheaper tuition relative to Nova. I think it comes out to like a difference of at least 50k over the 4 years (assuming you get instate after the first year at UNLV). That's not counting the money saved due to the cheaper cost of living in Vegas. However, I did kind of like the overall vibe of the campus at Nova more.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you all 🙂

I loved Nova for undergrad and their brand new sim lab is breathaking. Living costs aren't too bad, and I think Nova has a better reputation than UNLV. Ask the admissions office for an application for the Chancellor's scholarship.
Oh hey dude 🙂 yeah I'm torn tbh but glad to have options. I liked the vibe more at Nova. May I ask why you think Nova has a better reputation? And I'll def look into that scholarship.

From what i read it seems you should ask yourself whether 50k is worth the location of Florida. That depends on your financial situation. But both cities offer alot of student life. You do have some time to think things over though!

True. I'm just not sure how big the money issue will be, because I'm here thinking that money should not be more important than your happiness but then dentists and dental students say that the extra debt is crippling. I will think it through though, thanks!
When I was at Nova the students said they had no issues finding patients.
Ok you're right, I've been reading about people saying that the patient thing is just an exaggeration. I'll cross that off from my con list. Thanks!

I interviewed at both, got into both. Both were about the same to me in terms of how much I wanted to go. I would give the ever slightest of edges to NOVA but I wouldn't pay extra money for it. Go to whichever one is cheapest.

I interviewed at both. Both are similar in terms of clinical education and reputation. UNLV seems to have more patients and more intense curriculum, but Nova has a lot more student life and students seem happier. UNLV is better for me personally due to lower cost, closer to home (3 hrs vs 38 hrs), and wanting to practice in west coast after graduation. I also don't mind the intense curriculum because I can excel in that kind of environment. Just sharing my 2 cents! I'm pretty sure whichever you choose you can get quality dental education.

i currently have this dilemma too between UNLV and WesternU in Pomona, CA (close to Los Angeles)! However, the difference in $$$ is more than 50K. Also you have to remember interest rate is 6-7% if you do unsubsidized grad loans... 50K is not actually 50K if you plan to do loans

I would 100% choose UNLV over WesternU... Any particular reasons you're considering WesternU?

Got into both Western and UNLV and would also choose UNLV over Western like the poster above said.

I was leaning towards Nova earlier today but now I am back to square one lol. trying to figure out how much I will actually be saving with UNLV. Thanks so much for your guys input 🙂

To original OP- I’d go to UNLV, close to home and future practice PLUS 50k less.. it’s the best logical choice.

DS3 in UNLV, let me know if u have any questions

Thanks so much guys 🙂 It was a hard decision but I ended up choosing Nova. Wish I could attend both lol

I know this is a post from last year, but I wonder how you feel about your decision now that you have chosen Nova?
Do you feel it was the right choice, do you like the school and the location?

Love the school and location. The didactic/clinical stuff is what you make of it no matter where you go with a few minor exceptions so it comes down to cost and location. Tuition is higher yes but you can’t beat the location and weather down here. Dentists will give you heat for going more expensive but it’s a grueling 4 years and you have to be happy too.

Thank you, I am glad it worked out for you in the end, and I always encourage people to choose the place that makes them more comfortable or happy-ish 🙂
