i posted a similiar message in the pre-dental forum. Does Nova have new sim labs and/or equipment? i havent found info on this on nova's website yet. if anyone has info and/or a link, id appreciate it! btw anyone attending the school now, what do u think of it?

Our simulation lab is newer, but not "new". The school is now over 8 years old. We don't have the plasma flat screens like some of the recent "new" sim labs have out there, but what we have is a newer, clean, spacious sim lab.

I don't know where you sat in sim, but my seat is dirty as hell! I'm right next to the damn trash can!

Thats strange. When I was at the Nova interview they said NYU came to Nova to copy their sim lab. We have flat screens...I think our sim lab was installed in 2000

Maybe we did copy Nova and added the flat screens and possibly other goodies???

Dumb question alert. What is a sim-lab? Is this just a lab where you all have a little mini-operatory with a dentoform mounted on a mannikin? I assumed all dental schools had this. Or is it something else entirely?

Sponge:

You're right, "sim lab" (simulation laboratory) is where the manniquins are where first and second years spend most of their time.

Broc:

I believe when dental schools upgrade their sim labs, they tend to reference other dental schools who have newer facilities. Our facilities were built in 1997 so plasma screens were just starting to come out to the markets. Remember back in da days when a 15" flat screen would cost over $2K? Now they're what? $500 each for a top end? I believe that all new sim lab have flat screens now!

I must mention though, in our Radiology department/clinic, all of our radiology units have flat screens and we do have and use digital radiography now.

I'll tell you what, flat screen monitors versus CRT is going to make the difference between outstanding dentists and amalgam plugging hacks. Definitely a valid criteria to use in choosing a school.
