I recently (in Feb) had an interview at Nova and was told that I am accepted but there aren't any seats available as of now, what are my chances of a seat opening?

How did that happen? Did you get an official letter and now they are taking it back? Did the interviewer say to you verbally you were in? Hope you get in. Nova is in a nice place. Would love to live in Flordia for 4 yeasr!

I had called them up to ask about my status. Thanks for the good luck.

same thing happened to my buddy last year. he was "accepted" but there were no seats left at the time. i believe its an automatic acceptance for the next cycle if no seats open up this cycle....however, your chance of spots opening up is pretty high.

generally people that get these "acceptances" are highly qualified applicants, but applied late in the cycle. was this the case with you?

jb!🙂

surprisingly I had applied in July. Isn't that odd? Also, I had asked the representative lady if I would automatically get accepted the following year and she said no I have to reapply. Did your buddy get accepted?

i am in the same situation. interviewed in feb and got accepted verbally over the phone. they said they are waiting for others to turn in deposits before they send me a letter. i have not heard from them since.

That's odd. I've never heard of anything like that. I hope it works out for you...

They told me I should find out in March, when I called thursday the lady told me there's still no opening. Its just really stressful to be honest.

wow, that's kinda harsh.... verbal agreements are binding in many cases (if you can prove them). nova should have just placed you on a high priority waitlist instead of making you sweat it out. shame on nova...

jb!🙂

thats kind crappy for nova to do that. it seems like they are just trying to cover their own a** and ensure that they have a full class. they should have waitlisted you guys instead of giving you guys an acceptance then making you wait. although you probably would have been waiting on a waitlist. good luck, i hope it all works out.

Hey just out of curiosity, did you get an acceptance letter and everything, saying you have to send in your deposit? I was also interviewed in Feb, and I have been accepted as well, but I have not heard anything about this acceptance waiting list, thats nuts, I sent in my deposit and all.. Im afraid now if my seat is secure.

i have 2 friends that also got the same raw deal...."you are accepted but there are no seats"........that is basically a waitlist in MY opinion. If you are on the waitlist you are qualified to be a member of an incoming class, but are just waiting for seats to open.....i do not know if its any different than the secretary saying that you have been "accepted" though. either way its better than the position i am in with Nova, rejected!👎

Yeah but how did your friends and the O/P find out they were on this so called accepted waitlist. Like i posted b4 ive been accepted too in Feb, but I havent heard a word about there not being enough seats for me, a chance I might not get in still, etc.. I only know I was accepted and they requested a deposit from me, which I sent in.. Now im a little worried about my seat being secure and I dont want to turn down another offer I have, only to find out they don't have enough seats for me. Anyone else on this accepted waitlist?

okay, i had an interview in early feb. the following week, i called and asked if i was accepted. they said I was accepted but they are waiting for deposits to be sent from others who were accepted in the previous two weeks. then, they said that i can talk to sue ann about where i stand on the list with other people who were accepted in the back of the line. i hung up cuz i had class as they were transferring me.

i forgot to add that one person i interviewed with was called and asked on the spot if he would to attend nova on the same day i called them.

also, i got this interview in september for february. the interviewers asked why i didnt move it up, but i explained to them akisha carter wouldn't let me

and they said i will find out in april if they are any openings

it sounds more like a waitlist than an acceptance. especially since they were waiting for deposits and didnt send you a letter. call back to clarify the situation. i hope it all works out for you in the end. good luck.

i asked them if it was the waitlist at the time, and they said no, i was accepted. but i guess we all know what it really is.

I was asked the same thing, if I would be attending right on the spot... They later sent me an official letter, plus requested a deposit.. Does this mean I am not on this accepted waitlist?? I hope not.. I dont know how they can tell you your accepted, but not have enough seats.. What if someone had a seat somewhere else and cancelled to go to Nova and then they tell them there arent enough seats.. that would suck..

is this legal? I think telling someone that they are accepted is a binding agreement.

They need to make a waitlist. For instance, I'm on the waitlist at IU for the class of 2011, which essentially means, if a seat opens up then I'm in, but if not.....(you can figure it out).

In fact, I had a similar experience with Nova. Told me if I got A's and B's this semester that I would have an interview in Feb. I earned a 4.0 and they rejected me after never answering their phone for a month and a half. Nice school too. In fact, I believe the Dolphins practice there in the off season. Oh well, their loss...

Good luck with the "accepted-waitlist." However, to me it sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

that sounds pretty ghetto. I had a similar, though not exact experience on an interview. Aside from offering praise, and asking if I would attend if accepted, she went on to state that her opinion was highly valued, the admissions committee would not question her endorsement, and that it was as "good as gold." However, she did cover her arse by not explicitly stating that I was accepted on the spot. It was more of a tacit acknowledgement, that ended in a sour, rejection letter.

Theres a thread about this that we talked about last month....

I'm in the same situation (accepted but really on a waitlist...) I talked to SuAnn and she said she doesn't see things changing. She did say that deposits are due around April 15 so that's when she really should know how things are looking for people on the waitlist.

Good luck to all!

This can't be legal... anyone ask ADEA about this?

Yes, my second deposit is due April 15th.. So I would assume those who sent in the initial deposit and then decide to attend a different school would not send in that second deposit, so they would know by then.. I just hope im not on this unoffical waitlist here and no one told me.. Those of you who were told that your accepted but have to wait, did they still ask you to send in a deposit to hold your seat???? What about a second deposit if the answer to the first is yes??

this is not a legal contract in the state of florida or any dental schools, if only verbal. acceptance is only binding AFTER you send in confirmation of acceptance with deposit. it is written in EVERY d schools conditions, they have done this for years they know what is legal and what isn't. its too risky to push the limit.

as for the situation, i was interviewed in early february and got accepted off of the waitlist (because thats what it is. after your interview they rank you with everybody and after seats open up, take their top students--in order). I was given an official acceptance letter after the seat opened up, and now i'm accepted not just "waitlisted."

good luck to everyone

Whatever is it, it's not right 👎
This is misleading information. They should just tell you straight off the bat that you are on the waitlist and not use the word "accepted" as freely as they seem to be doing. My friend is going through the same thing - and it just does not seem right.

I asked them if this was the same as a waiting list..and they said no...in fact they have a waiting list which is completely different from this

I was told via phone that I was accepted. After jumping for joy, they told me that the class was full and I would be placed on the "waiting list."

Let me clarify this for everyone. An applicant can be rejected, accepted, placed on the waiting list, or placed on the alternate list. The waiting list and alternate list are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LISTS! I am assuming that once the waiting list is empty (highly unlikely), the alternates from the alternate list would add to the class. I was told that the alternates don't stand a chance to get in the class because of the size of the waiting list this cycle.

If you were accepted and they have no seats for you (waitlisted), you WILL NOT get an official acceptance letter until spots open up. If you did get an official acceptance letter (those lucky people), you don't have to worry because you are holding onto my potential seat in the class.

The main issue at hand is that they tell us we are accepted, but that is not in fact the reality because there is no room. I think in a sense it is cool that they do tell us this, because we don't doubt our capabilities as students or doubt the interview date. Nova was the first school to send me an interview date and it was the last out of 5 interviews that I went to. I wished I moved the date up but o well.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. Although, I think they should not tell you that you've been accepted.

getting accepted like that was like a moral victory for me. no one likes to get rejected.
