nova?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yes, my good friend got a certified letter in the mail from them on Saturday. He wasn't home so he picked it up today at the post office.....

so yes, he has heard from nova so they must be sending out some invites.

I am waiting to hear from them also. Interviewed on Nov 1

Acceptances are mailed. Su-Ann have shared with me that roughly around 60 acceptance letters and around 30 wait-listed letters are also mailed.

Good luck everyone!

Yah-E or anyone at Nova:
How's the recreational facility (gym) at Nova like?

I know the dental school is awesome but how's the gym?

cuz I have to play B-ball even I go to dental school.

thanks

I received the letter last Tues 1/6

Life Is Short:

Nova, currently, does not have a gym. With that said, Nova as a University is building a multi-million dollar recreational facility starting sometime in the next couple of years. Unfortunately, I probably will not be around to see or use it!

Majority of the students here at Nova HPD, we have memberships at various gyms (Ballys, 24 HR Fitness, Lifetime Fitness, LA Fitness, etc.). B-ball, no worries, a lot of competition around here. Guys play ball all the time at the Undergraduate campus against Meds, Law, Business, etc.

Sports and extracurriculars are ample here at Nova Dental, just too bad that we don't have a cool weight room yet!

Yah-E thanks for the info,
Man, I guess i have to join 24hr Fitness or something...
Play'ng outdoor court is cool though = lots of audience etc. as long as it doesn't rain I don't care indoor /outdoor.
Anyway,
Yah-E, I have three questions about Nova
1. Is Florida saturated w/ dentists?
2. How do you stay cool during the summer?
3. how diverse is the student body?

thanks,

1. Is Florida saturated w/ dentists?

Oh yes! Especially South Florida!

2. How do you stay cool during the summer?

Well, believe it or not, you're usually always indoor where there's air conditioning or in your car where also there's air conditioning (hopefully). When you're outside is because you wanted to be outside on the beach or playing sports. All that talk about humidity, hot and sticky.....it's nothing really....

3. how diverse is the student body?

Student body is very diverse. A lot of Hispanics, fair amount of African Americans/Jamaicans and very little Asians. I believe that we have the most Hispanic dental student body in the entire country. In my class alone, we have roughly 25 Hispanic dental students (Colombia, Argentina, Cuba, Dominican Rep, Brazilians).

Very diverse.

About the last part of Yah-E's post.

I noticed that hispanics are underrepresented in dentistry as a whole, why do you think this is the case?

It would be a shame if hispanics didn't get the treatment they need because of this.

Simply because hispanics are underrepresented in nearly EVERY profession, much less the professional occupations.

If more hispanics applied, then more would be represented. I don't think it's much more difficult than that.

Of course, it's somewhat of a trickle-down problem. Large number of hispanics don't graduate college, which doesn't leave much chance for applying to professional programs.
