The style is slightly Maynardesque but the voice is off IMHO. Remember I have pretty much listened to Maynard for the past 10 years at least a few times a week. I know his voice the minute I hear it. But the idea of you comparing others to him just makes me warm all over. It means you are paying attention and taking it all in.
 
Here's my dilemma. I've heard most of the Tool that's out there, and a lot of it I felt pretty meh about the first 1 or 2 times through. On the other hand, there are some Tool tracks that are unbelievable. I mean, Stinkfist, 46&2, Grudge, Schism, Vicarious, The Pot...amazing. Are there some equally bad-a$$ tracks out there that I missed? I'm all ears.

I can't really state which ones are best because to me its more of a rhythm, a flow of music that just adds to the overall feel and vibe. With that being said the songs you listed are definitely bad-ass. I would add Rosetta Stoned, Triad, 10,000 days and the best cover of any zepplin song ever, No Quarter. I'll admit, TOOL isn't for everyone. I also find Radiohead to be equally amazing but in a more depressive mellow sense. I'm not a depressive personality so it doesn't bother me. I just find them to be unique and extremely creative. Neither of these bands give anyone the feel of mainstream BS put out by record labels. They seem to do their own thing and it shows.
 
I actually hear a lot of similarities between Tool and Radiohead, especially if you compare Aenima with OK Computer. I spent a lot of time listening to those albums in the dark with headphones on. You hear new things the more that you listen to them. I got into both bands around the same time, and both bands are technically great, and also write amazing songs.


Also, that cover of No Quarter is, hands down, one of the best covers I've ever heard.
 
For what it's worth I did enjoy those songs however, try Depeche Mode, It's No Good. Dark, Ethereal and foreboding. Takes me back to my clubbin' days when testosterone was King and pretty women Ruled. Maybe one of the technocrats can put a You Tube sticky on that song. Regards, ---Zip

I'm pretty sure you, Jet and I are about the same age. But we seem to have progressed with our music taste while you are still living in your ecstasy days.:laugh: Try the LSD, it will bring you back my man.

Bigeye, that video is perfect. Maynard, raised as a military brat, seems to have learned some moves.

Bad*ss. Not that he is a bonified bad*ss but the video is classic Maynard.

all these vids are awesome esp tool. While I like a vast majority of Tool's stuff I always come back to a select few.

I just did get into Mushroom Head and I'm sorry I listened to 1 track years ago and instantly disliked them. Sorry fellas 🙁
 
Tool... ah... Never heard a band sound so good live. They've been my #1 ever since I heard OPIATE.

Over the years, Adam Jones has really perfected his Les Paul tone through his triple rectifier. He has a big sound considering he is the only guitarist in the band.

For those of you who like toolish type of music. I have found many of Chevelle's songs to be comparable (although not quite as orchestrated as Tool). The singer has that Maynard sound to him.😎
