In a First for California, Nurse Practitioners to Deliver Primary Care without Physician Supervision | California Health Report

"Nurse practitioners, who hold masters or doctorate degrees in nursing, can diagnose patients, prescribe medication and admit patients to the hospital. Yet in California, they typically work under the supervision of medical doctors despite their years of training. Ballard-Hernandez is an exception, one of the few nurse practitioners now working with full practice authority in the state of California."

This is powerful. Spread far and wide. Support your MD/DO specialty societies and PAC's. Don't just sit back and take it. They are coming to eat your RVU's! The large MD/DO employers will not protect us.

Would have been useful 10 years ago if AMA had put out.

What's your next move?

I think it’s likely medical economics will eventually force me into an admin role at my own practice and I will employ only midlevels to perform all consults and procedures.

this idea has been thrown around but if the midlevels are capable of practicing and billing independently then what value do you add? this only works in your own, solo, non-concierge PP. Concierge practices will market that your get to see a physician rather than midlevel

This is already done near me. Satelite NP offices with procedure suites that feed the mothership a steady diet of pee and stims.

I wouldn't add anything except that I have a practice list of patients that could keep two NPs busy for 10 years without another referral while I cash checks from the beach.

Yeah I agree with drusso, we need to post this video everywhere we can. It's insane what's happening and we need to stop it
