When the NRMP lists a particular percentage of positions matched, is this number derived before or after the scramble?

Supposedly, Ob/Gyn has not been competitive the last few years. However, according to the NRMP data tables, greater than 91% of the positions have filled in the last five years. This seems like a pretty high fill rate to me instead of the "buyer's market" everyone talks about.

Any insight?

Thanks, everyone! ;)

See if it also lists the number of people who applied versus the number filled (were there significantly more applicants than positions?). If those two numbers are similar, then, while not exactly a "buyer's market", you are more than likely to get a spot, somewhere.

For example, I believe there were some 1400 people who applied for rehab, for about 360 spots. There are significantly fewer postitions than applicants.
