NSUOCO alternate list. General advice??

I've been placed on the alternate list and I'm just wondering if I should contact the admissions office in a professional manner and express my intent and interest in attending school there, or should I just wait and hope something happens? What is the appropriate method to contact them (email, phone, letter)? NSUOCO is my top pick, so I want to do anything I can to increase my odds.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Let them know you're still interested.
Ask how the process works? Where am I on the list? Anthing you can do to improve your odds? When would I be notified? How frequently should I check back?
