so as i sit on my waitlists, praying for good things come MAY, i have to wonder - how many kids are accepted right off the bat? lets say a school interviews 400 for a class of 135, any one want to gander how many are immediatly offered positions after the interview? just curious.... and hoping that this years waitlists move more than last years!! :scared:

come on ames, this one is easy. They are going to immediatly accept the number of people enrolled in their class until they get deposits to cover all of those spots. After that its a big game

i would think a quarter of the entering class. they usually accept the top tier people for sure. after that, it's no word until march.

I think chankovsky's right. It's waitlist for the rest.

No, I am fairly certain that if they have a class of 135, they will accept the first 135 students that pass muster at the adcom meeting. This is of course assuming a rolling admissions, which is most but not all schools. Basically, if the first 135 interviewees were all great, they would accept them all and waitlist everyone from then on...not likely, but thats the approach. Definitely, more than the 135 will eventually be accepted without waitlisting, by the time the interview season is over.

What this means to people like me and you, who are stuck on waitlists, is that there is almost NO movement on these lists until May 15th, and actually until a bit after, when people are forced to choose one acceptance. Start warming up your "What is the matter with you people holding all these acceptances" threads....

You know, they accept grown ups too.

The real answer is that each school is different. Some only accept those they really want right away and wait until later in the cycle to initially fill the class, some over accept well before March and continue to add later after many have withdrawn. Each school is unique in its approach to admissions.

kids. adults. dogs. whatever. i just want a spot!! according to the person at the albany admissions office they offer "very few positons" to make sure that some are open through the whole season, so for them [at least] it looks like they initally take a small ammt and work from there. ugh. its just frustrating to see so many sdn-ers with multiple acceptances and then the rest of us on multiple waitlists. ok, enough bitching for now - theres a tree that needs decorating! 🙂
