Hey does anyone know how many students take the DAT every yr? If, so do you have a citation... thanks... it is part of a research study I am doing... thx a lot for your help in advance!

My guess would be - at the minimum, all the people who applied to Dental Schools at that cycle or year.

So, lets say 6000-7000 students applied for 2004, then I am sure at least 6000-7000 people would take the DAT to apply.

I think this year 2003-2004, AADSAS had more applications, maybe in the 7000 region, so probably all those applicants would have taken the DAT. If others, who didnt apply also took the DAT, that # would be really low in my opinion, maybe ~ 100! max - and they would be people who might want to apply the following cycle or year.

Well... I am sure other people have their opinions.

i think it's hard to get an accurate number...... since people can retake this test every three months so a person can theorectically take this take 4 times within a year...... i don't know what i'm thinking.... i think the dat is not a very good standardized test......

I guess I am just amazed at how few dental programs there are in comparision to med.... i just figured there were more dentists than doctors... i don't know why though...

thanks for the info though!

the reason why there are more dentist than doctors is because of the premeders that change their mind and go into dentistry. dentistry is much easier also....

dude, take a chill pill........ we are talking about people who take the dat's and mcat's..... when you say physicans you are being too general...... dentist could fall in the physicans category.... i don't know about your source of info.........

Dentists fall into physician category...what the hell are you talking about???

This info is straight from the government. Plus think about it...over 100 med schools and 56 dental school. For sure there are more in medicine

take a look, dentist are seperated from those in medicine:

There are more physicians then dentist by far

around 276,000 dentist and 813,770 Physicians

I think the reason that there are much more physicians than dentists is because medicine have much more specialty programs than dentistry. So in order to fill up every area, a lot more physicians & med students are needed.

Plus every medical school I know has larger class size than their dental school. There are far more physicians being graduated every year than dentists.

There are about 17,000 medical school spots and roughly 4200 for dental school. In addition to those 17,000 med school spots there are roughly 17,000 foreign medical grads who pass the certifying exam so they can practice here. To practice as a dentist in the US you have to be one of those 4200 that graduate from a US school.
