I'm curious how many interviews one needs, on average, to have at least one acceptance to dental school. I have talked to a medical school friend of mine, and their "safety" interview number is five interviews. Being that the number of dental schools is fewer, and competition is up, I wonder what it is for dschool.

There are some students here that have had 4 interviews and 4 waitlists, there are people I know that have only one interview and one acceptance. Just some guesses would be comforting and nice!

I wanted at least 3...but that would change depending on whether the schools were private or out-of-state (I don't have an in-state). Once you get an interview, your chances of getting in are usually higher for a private school, since there are so few seats for out-of-staters at the public schools.

But it seems to me that most people with multiple interviews seemed to either do well at most of them, or do poorly at most of them. So it doesn't really matter how many you get. I dunno, anyone else have a thought on that?

Nostalgia. I think I just replied to something like this. I enjoyed having multiple interviews because over the course of them you figure out what works well and what doesn't. You get into a rhythm that you feel comfortable with. I would say I needed a couple interviews to really figure out exactly what I wanted and what I truly meant to say.

There's really no way to tell how many interviews you need. You might have one interview and get accepted, or you might have 10 and get rejected from every school. Obviously more is better, so just try your hardest and hang on for the ride.

I pulled my applications out after first round at every school but Buffalo (and VCU where I was accepted.) I only went to one interview after realizing that some schools I applied to I'm not sure what I was thinking. I know I wouldn't want to live in TN, far away from everything familiar to me. One interview, one accept., but though I am an out of stater, I had previously attended grad school at the same institution... I'm willing to wager that helped me. In addition, though I'm not sure why, interviews don't make me nervous. I figure what is meant to be, will be. There were a couple of people I heard horror stories from bc they were tongue-tied in their interviews or (on this site) tried to unsuccessfully crack a joke. Apparently one girl said something and one of the interviewers said "I wouldn't say that in your other interviews... nervous laugh."
