More Nurse Practitioners Are Pursuing Residency Training To Hone Skills

Can we abbreviate all MD residencies to this? 1 year and boom full scope practice would be damn sweet. Hell why can't we also have the opportunity to switch specialties on a whim if NPs can and practice independently or with minimal oversight?

1) it's not a "residency". That's a physician specific term for ACMGE accredited post medical school training programs.

2) I find it odd that article spends so much time discussing why a newly graduated NP is so unqualified to care for patients. Doesn't exactly speak too highly of their training.

Nurse practitioners say that their outcomes are the same or even better than ours. So why do they need extra training? To deal with that type 1 diabetes? hahaha

We have other "residents" in pharmacy, floor nursing and even chaplains. They know where they stand and feel embarrassed to call themselves as such in front of actual residents.

I always prioritize my education and those of my students above others. They can learn on their own time, from someone else. I make exceptions occasionally for people with good attitudes and personalities who come in without a chip on their shoulder.

Yeah, I've seen a few recent articles about it. I think it's good they are seeking further experience, but I also think this might be used as much the same ploy as the DNP. An attempt to blur the lines further so that patients aren't sure what differentiates a doctor and an NP. And the outcomes research is utter BS. The confounding factors and sample size is laughable, but yet they and journalist use that article as proof because the lay public can't interpret the difference between solid work and weak politically charges bs research.

You haven't been out much. There are similar groups almost everywhere that feel their opinions matter too. Check out some of the insane political parties across Europe.

Btw not only do nurse practitioners want to call this extra year of basic clinic skills training a residency, some of them even want to call it a fellowship. Lame. It should be called an internship, but of course no "well trained" nurse practitioner wants to be associated with that..

The sadest part of this is that their nursing association does not even support this extra training, saying that they provide great outcomes straight out from school. Where many of them are online schools. Where they make no real clinical decisions. It really is all about the $$$ for them. Don't want to put in the effort but want to play doctor.

It's just a matter of time. Eastern Europe is now full of *****s, because most of their smart people have been leaving for decades (and IQ is ~80% inherited). It will be scorched earth in 2-3 generations, especially if Western Europe wakes up and realizes what barbarians they have accepted into the union. Stupid people care more about their bellies than liberties.

Another example: Orban and his populist regime in Hungary.
