hey everyone...I need some advice.
i am a Canadian. I am a registered nurse looking to apply to dental school
BSN gpa 3.52 and sci gpa 3.59, 100 hrs dental shadowing.
I write my cDAT in November but am applying to american schools June 1st.
Do I have a chance of suceeding here?😎

I am sorry, we cant all be American.

November is very late, unless you score a 30AA, you will not stand a good chance at American Dental schools. Even if you apply june 1st and send in your appplication, your file wont be complete at dental schools until they receive your DAT score.
 
really? the dat is only available twice a year November and February. Am i wasting my money applying this cycle?...ps im only applying to american schools as a back up plan.

Yes, you are wasting your money. If you don't have a DAT score and you apply in June with mediocre grades, you are effectively donating a few thousand dollars to ADEA. Apply to the Canadian schools first, then if you don't get in, apply next cycle to American schools.

Well, you can take the American DAT whenever. Heck you can schedule one right now and take it in 2 weeks.... Although I don't know if canadian dental schools accept a-DAT.

The problem when you apply to U.S schools is... your application will remain 'incomplete' until EVERYTHING is turned in (LORs and DAT score).... without these things, schools won't review your application.

I think your wasting your money applying here (unless you can squeeze the DAT at a much closer time to June)

I think sept is late, I would say the latest should be early to mid august to be pretty good. Mainly due to the fact the DAT scoores take 2-4 weeks to reach AADSAS.
 
Doc87 did you ever apply to dental school? How did it go? How did you do it? I am currently transitioning from RN to dentist and will be starting dental pre-req's this August 2012. I have 8 pre-req's to take but I also want to apply for dental school in 2013. Is the a realistic goal and if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can obtain this, chime in 🙂 I plan to take 2 sciences a semester and which will take 4 semesters. Fall 12', Spring 13', Summer I & II 13'...but doesnt leave much time for DAT. Thanks in advance

I think you are off by a year, you probably will not be able to apply until the class of 2014. The 2013 cycle opens in less than a month. You would need your DAT done this summer and you may have a difficult time convincing admissions that you are serious until you finish a few more of the pre-reqs, have shadowing done and have solid LOR's in place at time of application. It is a long process!

Thanks. I think my post was confusing. What I mean is that I want to apply in 2013 for matriculation in 2014. I have been shadowing and have a couple other shadowing opportunities lined up so hopefully I will get that finished up soon before starting pre-req's in August.
