Hello, SDN Clinicans.

I am a previous user who wants to become RN, but I have a question for you guys. (Remeber the thread about the "waitlist" system? Is it gone, btw?) -- I lost my user name... 😱

I applied to school I wanted to, but I have not heard from anything, so I e-mailed the school, and the reply was:

Hi [my name],

The nursing department has not made their final decision on your application yet. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

So, I wrote 2 e-mails, but I do not know which one should I send it in order to know about my status.

1)

Hello _____,

My name is _______. I applied to the Nursing program for the Fall of 2009.

I e-mailed the admission office on June 25th and they told me that the nursing department has not made the decision on my application yet on June 26th.

I know you must be busy these days making decisions on the applicants. I am sorry for bothering you, but could you let me know when I will know my admission result from the Nursing department?

I really want to be a part of nursing program of ______________

Thank you,

2)

Hello ____.

My name is _________. I have applied to the Nursing Program for the Fall of 2009.

I have send out my last semester's reportcard about a month ago.
I was curious about my application status. Could you let me know when I will get my admission report from Nursing department.

Thank you.

It sounds like one sounds depressed and the other one is relaxed.

Does it matter which version of letter will change my admission status?

Thank you in advance.

If they just responded to you on June 25th, it's only been 2 weeks. I would wait another 2 weeks before contacting them. You were told they were still making decisions. Give it a little more time. The wheels of bureaucracy grind slowly.

I'd send something like this:

My name is _________. I am an applicant to the nursing program for the Fall of 2009. I sent the required information approximately one month ago and am following up regarding my status.

Thank you for considering my application.

Respectfully/Sincerely,

Don't sound too desperate.

Annoying the adcom with frequent messages may be a good way to get rejected😉.

But won't it on July 23rd?

That means I would only have a month to take care of other things.

Dorm, fee, and such...

Anyways, I already sent out an e-mail similar to the second one.

But, I sent it to the Nursing Admission, not my counselor.

Thank you

Why did you bother asking for advice if you already went ahead and just did what you wanted to do anyway? You've now had two people tell you that bugging the admissions office isn't a good idea. The admissions office somewhat indirectly gave you the message to let them get back to you.

Don't waste people's time asking for advice if you don't want it.

I would definitely heed the advice and not hound the admissions board. I was admitted into a BSN program and start orientation in mid-August. If we don’t show up for the first day of orientation we are dropped from the program and someone on the waitlist is accepted. Your program could have reached it maximum and they are waiting to see if anyone drops.
