Hello, I am a pre-pharm student but I have a question to people who are currently attending pharmacy school on F-1 visa (especially Canadian citizens)...

My question to you is that can you work in a pharmacy during summers?
Or is it that you gotta save you working hours for clinical rotation since last time i heard... F1 students are only allowed to work 1 year...

please clarify

thx,

I am not sure about Canadian Citizens! But as far as the F1 Visa goes you are authorized to work for 20 hours a week during your study semester and 40 hours a week during vacations once you get your intern license. About 1 year, some schools allow you to work right from the time you get your intern license and others wait for 9 months before they allow you to work. But 9 months is pertaining to engineering schools, not the pharmacy schools as far as i know of. About the clinical rotations, they are always part of your coursework. So you can work for 20 hours at other pharmacy store even when you are doing your clinical rotations (40 hours clinical rotation full time as coursework for the school + 20 hours extra at any other place , if you please, which you would not - due to the study load). About not working while studying and then getting all the rotations after studying, you do have one year Optional Practical Training to finish any left out hours to meet the licensure hour requirements. I also heard that new immigration rule will increase the 1 year OPT time to year and a half, which would make life easier (its not a rule yet, but proposed in the senate!!!).
I am on F1 and had this information, hopefully this would help other F1's too. Correct me if I got something wrong!!!
