Heard that NY is opening 3 new pharmacy schools on top of 6 or 7 current schools? What is everybody thinking ?

$$$ << this is what they are thinking

not surprised, thats why i didnt do residencies or followships, gotta make that money while i can. you know know whats gonna happen even in several yrs.

That sucks. I only heard about SUNY Binghamton. Even though it's a state school it's not needed and therefore should not be opened.

I always try to be an optimist, but even I have to admit that it is ridiculous how many pharmacy schools are opening. lol

The future of pharmacy is in independent ownership; that may be the only way to get a job in the future.

^^ that won't happen for at least 10 years. I figure 4 more graduating classes need to suffer unemployment before people "get it". Then it will take several more years for pharmacy schools to start to close, assuming the government will finally do something about the easy access to student loans.

And there is always the risk that schools will never close & students never stop signing up for them (ala lawyer schools). Though lawyers have all those cool TV shows that keep people interested in being a lawyer, even though their job prospects are nil. At least pharmacy doesn't have a glamor component enticing people to sign up for it.

Law school enrollment has cratered compared to its peak, I expect the same will happen to pharmacy in about 7-10 years. Also, when the government finally decides to cap or eliminate the GradPLUS program you'll see a lot less educational expansion, if not contraction.
