Is there a stigma in completing a New York residency, especially if you hope to find employment outside of NY State?

There's a lot of lower quality programs in NYC area, but there are surely some good ones too. If you want a job that will need someone doing a good amount of rearfoot recon surg, it's usually better to look elsewhere. There's no always/never statements, though... a lot of pretty good DPMs trained in NY and thrived elsewhere.

Ive had the opportunity to rotate through nyc programs and i did have some concerns as well. But i also rotated through sisters of charity hospital program in buffalo and i was very pleased with that program. So for anyone who wants to do a new york program i would definitely recommend the buffalo program
