Hey everyone,

I noticed that there was a thread about NY schools last year and wanted to make one for this year. So feel free post anything related to NY schools 🙂

So did anyone hear back from LIU?

I'm also applying to several NY schools: NYMC, NYU, Stony Brook, and Sage. I just got the supplemental application for Stony Brook last week...not too excited to have to write four more essays. After I finish those, I will officially be done with everything (finally)!

I'm glad that you started this thread because so far there hasn't been too much talk about any NY schools, so this will definitely be helpful!

@olivia_PT, yeah I hope this thread will be helpful! I'm also applying to Stony (it's going to take me a while to finish those essays). And congrats on your NYU interview!

Thank you! I'm really nervous, but excited that I got an interview! It's definitely going to take time to write the Stony Brook essays; I'm not a huge fan of the questions that they asked.

Hello! I applied to all New York schools too. NYIT, Stonybrook, Hunter, and Buffalo. I just received Upstate medicals supplemental today. The essay writing is definitely not over yet. I'm still thinking about applying to NYMC...and touro but I have not yet.

That's great! Yep, I agree. And you still have time to submit apps to NYMC and Touro (I believe).

Hey everyone!

I've applied to a bunch of NY schools as well... and have an interview at SUNY Upstate next week! I really have no idea about how to prepare for this... anyone been through it before?

When did you hear back from NYU?

I got a phone call from NYU today and set up an interview December 11. What is the best travel plan? Fly in day before an leave the evening of the day of?

Also, what is the best approach to prepare for the interview?

Congrats on your interview! I'm from upstate New York so I just took a train from home the day of and went back right after it was done. My interview was in the afternoon, and I was only there for about an hour and a half, if that helps you with travel planning.

Definitely make sure you are familiar with their program. They asked specific questions about my application so I would suggest reviewing your essay and whatever else you listed for extra curriculars, observations, etc. Everyone was really nice, and it was a lot more relaxed than I was expecting, so try not to worry too much! Good luck!

So what schools have people heard back from as of now?

Upcoming NYU interview. Could anyone who has interviewed there provide any feedback? Thanks!

The interview was very relaxed. It's you and three interviewers, which wasn't as intimidating as it sounds. Essay portion was easy as well. Good luck!

I have an interview with Hunter january 6th (I rescheduled). This is the first school I've heard back from! Anyone else hear from them? Or know what the interview is like?
I still haven't heard from NYIT...Its been over a month...and im working on my stony brook and upstate supplements.

@sjp44 You'll have to write an essay. Not a personal statement, or really even directly related to PT. You'll have a half an hour. Since you rescheduled, it probably won't be a packed room. That can be kind of intimidating. After about a 1/2 hour you'll get interviewed by two people from the faculty. The questions are very official and corporate (greatest weakness) and some PT-like questions. I was asked for my 'PT elevator speech' and 'what does compassion mean to you'. The faculty is really nice so I wouldn't sweat it. Wear something nice. Most people are in suits (though i know people who got in without suits on. as long as you come off as genuine i think your fine). Good luck!

Thank you to those that posted tips about the interview....hoping for the best!

I'm so glad I found this page since I am also applying to schools in NY 🙂

Does anyone have any updates? I know a few schools have finally started reaching out to students in other states, but I haven't heard from the schools that I applied to in NY yet (which makes me really nervous 😱)

I've heard from Upstate, LIU, and CSI for interviews. I was accepted to Upstate and rejected from Hunter. From this forum I know that Stonybrook, NYU, and NYMC have also begun acceptances. Hope this helps!

For those who applied to Upstate: Did it take awhile for them to receive you supplemental application? I sent mine over a week ago and it still isn't updated as "received" on my application summary. I called, and the woman I spoke to said it does take a while, but I wanted to hear from you guys!

Not sure how long it's taking people to hear back this year, but I think things are pretty dead on campus currently. Fairly sure every program is on winter break, so things might be moving a bit more slowly than normal right now.

I don't recall it taking very long, but I did receive a confirmation email letting me know that my application was completed. I agree that things are probably moving slower at the moment, given the holidays and whatnot - I emailed someone last week and received an out-of-office reply.

Thanks for your support everyone!
I called the office yesterday just making sure if everything is okay since I never got a confirmation letter. She said she will look into it. As of this morning everything is updated and I have an interview 2/5 🙂
Side note: I haven't heard a word from NYIT, I called and was told the class was already filled by the time they received my application, and most likely was not looked at. Bummmer

Awesome, good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Has anyone here been denied from NYMC? I had an interview earlier this week and just got an email saying the decision was sent in the mail. Basically i'm hoping that rejections don't come in the mail hahah

The day was long but really informative! I wouldn't stress too much about the interview at all. All the faculty were really nice and made you feel welcome! The interview itself was only like 15-20 minutes of the day. It's one on one with a member of the faculty. They ask you the normal questions like why PT and why our school, they will ask you to explain any bad grades in pre-req classes, some other questions I remember were "what's one thing you could change about yourself" "What do you like about PBL?" "if you get in here and another program how will you make your decision?" things like that! I'm sure there are things i'm forgetting but nothing too difficult! Don't stress 🙂

Has anyone recently (like within the last couple weeks) been accepted into NYMC and sent in a deposit/intend to send a deposit?

Has anyone else committed to Hunter?
