Hey all,

Can anyone provide some insights on some NYC aways that I can do as a 4th year?

I'm really looking to rotate through a program that I have an average - decent show at matching. Given my stats (Step 1 216, HP in all clerkships, no red flags, native NYCer), I'd love some suggestions as to good places that I can rotate through?

I've thought about Montefiore, Downstate, Maimonides, Mt Sinai, St Luke's, and NYU.

Thoughts or suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

Mt Sinai and NYU are both quite competitive programs. Knew a handful of classmates with Step 1 scores ranging between 230s to 250s and did aways at one or the other and didn't match there. Now it could be that they didn't shine on their aways but that's not the impression I get from them (especially not all). So I'd at least do an away at one or more of the others then consider their risk/benefit.

yea i wouldnt even try for mount sinai as an away unless your step 2 is much much better. looking at the most recent match and interview offer threads, sinai interviews the same people who were interviewing at the harvards/hopkins/ucsf, etc. plus, looking at the 5 people who said they matched at sinai on the "where did you match" thread were ranking sinai even above some of those other top names. very competitive, just my two pennies.
