O.k. so on this web site a couple of weeks ago they were talking about how at nycom if one is a female she must wear a bikini bathing suit to OM class, which I thought to be rediculous and seriously considered why I sent my money there. Secondly I was reading a post on another med school bulletin board about how the admissions committee seriously considers personal appearance and how attractive a woman is to get in. I find this to be rediculous, but there were many posts in response further agreeing on that statement. Included were other rude and crude remarks about how easy the women were too...etc.. etc... Can someone please clear these things up for me??

None of that is really true. There are 3 or 4 pretty good looking females in the class but sorry no supermodels. Women don't have to wear bikinis if they don't want to. They can wear one piece bathing suits. Don't know about attractive women getting in easier but I won't be surprised if that's true.

I think EJS is confused about the circumstances which allow women to wear bikinis or one-piece bathing suits to OMM class.

Women and men in osteopathic medical schools need to learn OMM by being able to feel and touch and all that stuff, so bathing suits offer enough privacy but enough "access" to things that need to be felt. Never do they feel things that are too personal, but according to my friend at NYCOM, they just learned how to locate the symphysis pubis, which is just about as personal as you can get.

p.s. Anyone interview on Dec 9th?? If so.. email me!! I was there with you that day!

I would just like to say that a one piece bathing suit would be o.k. it was the need for a two piece bathing suit I was conscerned with. I wear one to the beach, but I wasn't really too excited to hear I might have to wear one to class. I was the other comments about nycom women being easy and stuff I am more concerned about now. Sounds kinda like a hostile environment to me.

Hi EJS,

I think that thread on TPR was just to get a rise out of the women. As a feminist, I choose to ignore those threads since they are obviously posted by recently post-pubescent, hormonal boys that don't yet understand the fact that women can own their sexuality and have sex with whomever they choose, whenever they choose, without being called "easy". (You gotta remember, some of them don't even SHAVE YET!!!!)

When they grow up they'll understand those things, but until they do just ignore em.

Will I be seeing you next year?? send me an email if you like!! [email protected]

Would someone give me a clear answer about that little fact--Do women have to wear bathing suits? yes or no! I keep feeling that everyone is just playing a silly little game. And... what about men? *nervous*

people, relax about the bathing suit issue. women do not "have" to wear bikinis. all that is required is a sports bra and loose shorts for women... or anything that will allow easy access to body parts for palpation. for boys, they have to remove their shirts and wear loose shorts. this issue arose at 3 interviews so far, and this was pretty much the standard for dress during OMM labs. when i was in PT school in our orthopedic labs, it was the same attire the professors wanted us to wear. nowhere have i heard about women having to wear bikinis... this is a silly rumor.

I was telling an old teacher of mine in high school about all this bikini stuff and OMM classes, and he told me that back in the days (circa 1950) boys would be swimming in attire that makes OMM class look like a black tie affair. That was standard practice!

Thank God for the invention of human decency!

Hot chicks? Try a Perdue Oven-Stuffer Roaster!

(what nonsense!)

paul, I would have to say that wasn't very nice.

There are hot chicks at NSUCOM, (but they're all in the Occupational Therapy program..)

Does anyone know if the bathinsuite attire apply to NSUCOM too?
Please let me know. I have heard that in the old days the OBGYN exams were done on students, and I hear that recent graduates from certain schools still do that. I'm glad that NSUCOM does not do that, but the bathing suite thing is making me nervouse.

didn't anyone listen? you do NOT have to wear bathing suits (ie, bikinis) in OMM labs! read my last post... sports bras, loose shorts, t-shirts, etc suffice for the purpose. you need to be able to expose body parts (esp bony landmarks) for palpation purposes. whoever started this rumor about bikinis must be really having a good time watching you all get all nervous and tense.
