NYCOM Decisions??????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
should i be calling them?

i'd call them. i interviewed on the 11th and was accepted on the 21st (by phone--i called them) and got the letter 2 days later.

Has anyone who interview on December 6th and after received a decision from NYCOM yet??????

i interviewed on 12/12, and haven't heard a thing....though my mail is going to california, so who knows if that would explain any delay.

honestly i've heard that nycom mail/decisions are totally unpredictable. some people interview and hear within 2 weeks (acceptance) and some hear the same news (acceptance) 8 weeks later.

are you sure that you are complete at nycom in terms of LOR's/DO letter? if you are not complete your file would not be reviewed by the committee when they met.

when i interviewed they told me they have everything they need

yeah, me too. maybe they just weren't able to review all of the applicants that they had recently interviewed in the last committee meeting, hence the delayed decision for some of us.

Yea, I interviewed on 11/6 and still haven't heard anything, lol

my boyfriend applied two years ago, his interview was about 15 min, seemed laid back, he then recived a rej letter in the mail, when he called the adm office to find out why, an adm coun told him his mcat was to low, a 28. He started to disagree with her bc we new individuals who were excepted to that school with a much lower mcat. He tried to get in touch with the director rodika, with no luck, he then wrote a letter of protest to the university president office and the president agreed and forced rodika to have a conversation with him. SHe was very nice and informed him his interview score was to low, my boyfriend was right as far as his mcat not being to low for nycom, if it was the college of phys and serg(columbia) then he could understand, it should not have taken him so much to get an honest explanation out of them

Beaurocracy (sp?) and getting the "run around" is not an uncommon practice at all schools. It's mostly on a case by case basis really. I, personally, have had nothing but impeccable service and help from NYCOM. However, I have had to cut through my share of red tape at other schools and felt that I was being treated poorly and unprofessionally. Do I hold a grudge? Probably. Is it fair for me to do so? Probably not.

I'm sorry that your bf had such a negative experience, but it seems unfair to have a negative impression of a school merely on one/several bad experiences. It's always going to be a case by case thing with a little bit of luck involved about how you are treated. Good luck to you both and I hope everything turned out/will turn out great.

I agree, I had excellent service from them. Their admissions staff was especially very nice and friendly.

The red tape sadly exists in all schools, there is really nothing we can do but to just deal with it and move on.

i cant talk about other schools, i just posted my boyfriends experience with nycom and also, i heard some bad things about the school, for example, it has one of the highest attrition rates of any DO school, now did i do some kind of formal study,, no, based an talking with people and reading some of these posts along with my boyfriends experience, i would not say it would not be my first ch school, i am not asking others to join my club, and i cannot say he had a similar exp with tor-NY or unvnj as of yet

They only took 2 weeks to get back to me.
