I would suggest calling at like 3:00pm, that is when I called and the lady was very nice and helpful (maybe they switch).

Your time zone?
I, too, realized that there are different persons answering phone calls. I called about 1 PM (EST) last Friday and got the helpful lady.
I'm nervous because of the wait...
Anyone interviewed on Dec 3rd or after, please let me know when you've gotten a decision!

Sorry, I meant 3 PM EST (we probably spoke to the same person).

IIRC, I heard someone say (possibly on this thread) that anyone who interviewed after Dec 2nd will have to wait until after the break for decisions.

Can anyone confirm this?

Hmmm that's weird, sorry to hear that. When I called on Friday at ~11:30am the lady gave me no problem. Are you gonna pay the deposit?

yah...i paid the deposit at another school, which i liked, but wished that it was in NY. i called again and got the "no decision has been made." i think that means its bad news.

good luck to everyone else who's waiting to hear back. i really like this school!

FYI guys, I just got an acceptance via snail mail.

to the previous poster... just because you had your interview doesnt mean the adcom can only accept or reject you. in fact they dont reject you outright because they dont know if they'll wind up accepting you later on in the cycle. so not getting a response isnt necessarily bad news, it could just be delayed good news

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!! Got the letter via snail mail just a few moments ago.

Man I am so happy and relieved right now...it's an amazing feeling. A new journey begins.

I'm in NY as well. If you're on Long Island you should be getting the letter by this week (if you were one of the first interviewees, i.e., early-mid November).

Everyone who has gotten a letter, can you also let me know when you were interviewed?

Dec 2nd...Also for those who have gotten their letters, for me it says that:
"Due to the number of highly qualified candidates, we will be able to reserve a place in the class for you until January 22, 2010"
Does this mean that I have until Jan 22 to hand in my deposit or does NYCOM go by a set schedule like within a month, or within w weeks, ect...?
thanks for you help

Accepted today via snail mail...Interviewed November 5. Good luck to those still waiting.

Interviewed 11/17,
Got letter 12/15 via snail mail,
I live in Queens (pretty close by)

Hope this helps people who are still waiting!

BTW, is it just me or does Facebook not have NYCOM in it's database? I just tried updating my profile with a new school but NYCOM doesn't come up in the available schools list...

It's NYIT. Also you cant add a school on facebook until you have a school email address.

Gotcha. I was wondering as well. How long does it take to get an e-mail after the deposit is sent in?? Is it not until you send in the rest of the matriculation paperwork?

Your prob not gonna get your email address until next July or August (closer to when school starts). I think one of your fellow classmates made a facebook group for the class of 2014 though.

Hey guys, I was just wondering how/when everyone got their interview invites? I'm concerned that I might have been silently rejected

NYCOM acknowledged getting my aacomas application on October 22 and I was asked to submit a supplemental application on November 4th...

I only submitted my supplementary this past week, and got an email from NYCOM telling me my supplemental application was complete on Dec 11th

my concern is that most people who got interview invites got them irregardless of whether or not they submitted the supplement.

I'm a NY resident too, I would have loved to go to NYCOM
anyone have feedback?
has anyone received an interview invite only some time after submitting the supplement?

thanks for the help

I know that people who were getting interview invites in October were scheduling them for February. I'm not sure how many more invites they have left 2 months later. You made a mistake not sending in the secondary as soon as you had the opportunity to (if the secondary indeed matters preinterview now)

Well, didn't NYCOM just start interviewing in November? NYCOM interviews go till Aprl, so I don't think that lateness is keeping me out of the running, as much as other factors

I think thethethe was saying if they were assigning interviews for Feb in October, then what time slots are they scheduling interviews for now... ~2 months later, since they only interview up until April.

I think you def have a shot... one of my tour guides said he submitted his app pretty late and was accepted. I'm sure NYCOM leaves spots open for people that submit late, but they want. Good Luck!

When I called the admissions office before I received the interview invite, the lady said that they make decisions whether to interview an applicant or not ONLY based on AACOMAS app. You still have to submit your secondary before you interview or on the day of, but it doesn't seem to matter whether you get an interview or not. I think not receiving an interview might have something to do with the fact that the holidays are coming up. Maybe in January, when the school reopens you'll have more luck. Good Luck!!

thanks, very useful info
well, I think thes means that I'm rejected... my aacomas was processed by them back in October, if they wanted to extend me an interview, they would have done it by now 🙁
thanks for the info everyone... in case I actually get an interview, I'll let you know

Hey, I just called the admission office today... for those still contemplating whether to submit the 2ndary like here... I was told that you HAVE TO submit the supplemental in order to be considered for an interview.
If you just submit recently, it might take them sometime to review your file. hope this helps.

Hey guys. I have my interview at NYCOM January 27th....I even paid for the airfare....but I got accepted to VCOM and know I will be happier there. I am originally from NY and never liked living there, but would have gone there if I had no choice. I will cancel my interview so maybe we can make a deal if one of you wants an earlier interview...PM me and I will let you know the day I will cancel so you can call to get an earlier time. Chow!

Congrats to the recently accepted students!👍

Does anyone know the average wait time between interview and getting your letter of acceptance?

NYCOM sends its acceptance letters in huge batches... The first batch of acceptances went out last week for those interviewing in November (and the 1st few days of December). The next batch of acceptances prob won't go out till the beginning of January.

I was complete at NYCOM about 6 weeks ago and still have not heard back from them regarding an interview or a rejection. For those of you who got an interview with NYCOM, about how long after you were complete did you get an invite? Thanks!

I got my acceptance today...not sure what I am going to do yet. $1500 is a lot of money for a nonrefundable deposit, but the reasoning behind it is understandable. I am concerned with housing on L.I., being located in such an expensive area. Anyone have the lowdown on cost of living in Old Westbury, is it as expensive as everyone makes it out to be? Are there reasonable options out there for a fresh out of college med student?

Although I am in Highschool, I am really interested in their BS/DO program with NYIT. I live in Nassau County, so should I ever get the acceptance and go there, I would (unfortunately) have to keep living with my parents (since it's pretty expensive to live out on your own here).

Anyway, my question regards their curriculum. I'm aware you can do either a traditional Lecture-Based-Learning curriculum or a Problem-Based-Learning curriculum. Which one, in your guys' opinion, would be more conducive to help with studying for the boards? I've heard that PBL guys don't do as well as the LBL people on the boards, but I don't know if this is true per se. Can somebody confirm?

Not sure about NYCOM. At LECOM, Dr. Moore said that PBL scored higher on boards but that you couldn't really coorelate it with the program (he said perhaps students in PBL are more motivated and therefore more motivated when it comes to studying for boards and therefore score higher). NYCOM may be different. It really just depends on the student and how you learn best.

Considering it is "Ranked #10 for most expensive zip codes In the United States."

I would say yes. But you really should call and find out about housing options.

Well I believe most students live in the neighboring towns that aren't as expensive. My tour guide said he lives about 8-10 min from the school and in his 3 bedroom apartment he pays about ~600 a month. Def call and ask about housing options to find out for yourself, or maybe there are some current med students that will chime in.

It's definitely expensive living around NYCOM, but it's quite doable as long as you know where to shop and how to manage your money. You are essentially living off of loans, but how much you spend can depend a lot on your housing situation (rent per month, what utilities you do/don't pay for, services, shopping, etc.). If you watch your money, it's really not that bad. My advice would be to find roommates and look for a good deal; having other students living with you will lower individual costs (and hopefully will motivate you to study!).

As for LDB/DPC, I've noticed that there is a difference in the type of student that goes for either the lecture or the case-based DPC curriculum. You need to really be self-motivated and absolutely love reading from textbooks, since a lot of DPC is you teaching yourself (not that lecture doesn't force you to do that). In DPC sessions, you come up with "learning issues" that you are to then come home and learn all about for the next session. On top of that, they are also responsible for the Anatomy/OMM lectures from the LDB curriculum. In lecture, what you need to know is usually just found in the lectures themselves (for the exams; not so much for the boards), so you don't need to do much hunting on your own and it doesn't require that you read your textbooks (although they will tell you to of course). In the end, it really just depends on how you see yourself studying. From what I hear, students in DPC love their program and end up becoming a very close-knit group.

I'm personally in the LDB curriculum and I couldn't see myself doing DPC. I like having someone delineating what I need to learn and have a personal preference towards powerpoint slides than textbook pages. In terms of boards, it does not depend on the curriculum as much as it depends on you. You can't depend on NYCOM to teach you everything for the boards, so you'll need to take your own initiative regardless of which curriculum you choose.

Maybe a second-year or someone currently in DPC can shed more light on this. This is just how I see it. 😀

I interviewed in early November and I haven't heard anything. I called the admission office to ask for an address update and was told that nothing has been sent to me. So what does that mean, should I be expecting a waitlist/rejection letter coming soon, since accpetance letters have already been sent out for my interview group?

hey guys, merry christmas

i sent in my acceptance form and check last week, i'm just wondering for the other people who sent in their deposit, if the school notified you that they received it or cashed in the check.

withdrawing my acceptance this week, hopefully it opens up a spot for someone.
