Hey everyone! It took me about 15 minutes to realize that the search result for NYCOM housing brought me to last year's thread, so I started this new one for everyone entering the class of 2010. I think there are a few things that need a little sleuthing, so if you happen to know the answer, definitely post so we can all benefit. Thanks!
1) NYIT doesn't have housing for NYCOM students, but they do have undergrad housing, and I've heard that NYCOM students MAY be able to stay there. Does anyone know for sure? If that is possible, what are the dorms like and what do they cost?
2) When I went for the interview, one of the admin people told us that it's damn near impossible to find housing in Old Westbury, and most people live about 20 min. away. Does anyone know the names and numbers of a few landlords in the area that are popular with NYCOM students?
That's what I've thought of so far. In the meantime, I'm going to do my bit and pitch myself as a prospective roommate. If you're interested, read down. If not, congrats on getting into NYCOM and I hope to see you there!

I'm 23, female, non-smoker, and am looking for similarly aged chicks from NYCOM to stay with. I'm hoping to find something nice close(ish) to campus, with space nearby to park a car in case I wind up getting one. I keep hearing good stuff about Glen Cove, so that's probably my preference of locale. I'm generally pretty fun to be with, and I'd like a roommate who is reliable and friendly. I'm neither a neat freak nor a slob (I generally prefer a state of cleanliness, but messiness is different), and am not terribly quiet or loud either. With regards to significant others, I'm totally fine with your bf hanging out/staying over, but it needs to not be like he lives there everyday. Along the same lines, I'm not hugely (socially) conservative or fobby, and I want roommates who are sort of along the same lines.
I'm also hoping to get a dog, though that's NOT set in stone at all, and obviously is contingent on finding a landlord (and roommate!) who is ok with dogs. I'm looking at greyhounds, as they shed very little, don't really smell, don't usually bark, don't need much exercise (are often called "40 mile an hour couch potatos"), do well in apartments, and come pre-housetrained if you adopt. There are a number of Long Island shelters that I have been scouting out online, but like I said, this is all very much up in the air and depends on things like having the time and money to care for it.
On a side note, I am also deathly allergic to cats and other animals (guinea pigs, a few mutts and a few other dog breeds), so don't email if you have any of those.
If you already have an apartment lined up, or want to look for something together, definitely email me at [email protected] and let me know. Thanks!
