NYCOM intervewee's...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, i interviewed on the 21st and heard about a week and a half ago

I interviewed on Feb. 9 and got my accpetance letter today.

You should call the office and find out the status of your application.

I finally recieved word from NYCOM, I have been placed on the waitlist. I'm wondering if they even reject students after interview...maybe they just waitlist you if they dont accept you?! It is a really big class...does anyone know of anyone that was rejected after interview?

I don't know if they reject you. I was waitlisted and couple of my friends got accepted within the past few months.

I was accepted back in December. I had 1 month to submit my deposit, and it was only $500.

I received my acceptance letter yesterday (Tuesday Feb. 17). I have until Feb. 27 to give a 500 dollar deposit.

i interviewd nov 19th... they asked me to submit my degree when i graduated in december, then i heard finally feb 7th... never put on a waiting list... its all about patience...

hey, domsport.
did your letter from NYCOM say you are on the "wait listed" or the "priority wait list"? I have been put on the priority wait list myself last month and haven't heard anything from them yet...

Well, The truth is NYCOM has a"priority" waitlist and a "regular" waitlist. Im not sure exactly how or why they do this but I do know for a fact that if space becomes available the priority waitlist is the one they use. The regular waitist, it seems, is sort of a "back up". I would like to know if anyone that was on regular or priority waitlist was admitted and is currently attending. I would also like to know the approximate number of applicants placed on both the priority and standard waitlist each application cycle. Also...does anyone out there have any waitlist success stories?

I just interviewed at NYCOM and they said that the waitlists don't come into play usually until the summer months. So you may just have to wait it out. I was pretty shocked at the fact that when you do get accepted it is $500 within two weeks for a deposit and then another non-refundable $1000 by May 1st. Are most schools that expensive for deposits?

Osteopathic schools are usually in that ballpark.

hey domsport-

Are you certain that NYCOM has 2 waitlists? It seems like most people here are placed on the "priority waitlist"...

Also i'm surprised that there are people who actually got off the waitlist within the past few months?????😕

monalisa, are you sure that people got off the waitlist already for this year? because i would think that they would wait till they interviewed everyone. do you know if someone got off the waitlist for this years class already?

Yeah, Unfourtunately, I know for certain that NYCOM has two waitlists because im on the "waitlist" not "priority waitlist"...my letter specifically states that "priority waitlist" candidates will be reviewed first...Good luck,we're all in this together!

What are all your stats? re: waitlist compared to priority waitlist

thanks

nerves79-

According to Dmitrinyr, there're people who got off the waitlist within the past few months...

I was placed in the priority waitlist in Jan, and here are my stats:

Undergrad sci and overall GPA: 3.2
Grad GPA 3.8
Mcat: 24M

hey monalisa, the people that got off the waitlist ,were they priority or regular waitlist

I have heard of people coming off of the waitlist. In fact one of my friends was waitlisted last year and she was taken off of it. She did not hear about this until 2 weeks before classes started. Hope this helps.

first of all, I stated that I knew a few people that got accepted to NYCOM, not that these people came off the waiting list. They were accepted staight up after interview.

I was placed on Priority waiting list.

stats:

GPA: 3.52
Sci GPA: 3.3
MCAT: 3 times, best: 24

hope to get off soon

dmitrinyr: Thanks for the clarification! Good luck!

any recent decisions on the late february interviewees?

I called today to update some information in my file, and they told me that a letter went out today ...but they couldn't tell me over the phone. I'm trying not to take that as a bad sign, but they did tell me about my interview over the phone, so does anyone have any feedback? I'll know in a few days but that call had me near tears I'm so scared!😱 :scared:

vrazz, when did you interview? best of luck!!

i interviewed feb 25th

MCAT 24Q (10 V, 8 B, 6 P)

Overall GPA 3.4

Science GPA 3.1 (?) i think

One other thing...at MSUCOM the 'priority wait list' people are automatically offered a spot in the next years class if one dosn't open up in time for the 2004 class...is the same true of NYCOM?

dun dun DUN...

so today could be the day! AAHH! is anyone else freaking out?!?

good luck chimebo and vrazz (and me!)

yes - I've been freaking out all weekend...so scared! I really want to get in here...guess we'll all find out pretty soon! again, does anyone know about thier priority waitlist and guarunteed spots for the next year's class?

good luck guys!!! I really hope it is good news for us all.

well, no mail for me today...

i assume the longer it takes = waitlist.

i'll call and see what the deal is!

does NYCOM usually tell you if you get an interview? Cause I called friday and they said i was under review -- but i had to call today to see if they got a lOR from a doc and the girl just said "no" and made no comment about my review -- is this a bad sign?

I just got an acceptance letter today. I interviewed on the 20th of Feb. The letter was dated on March 4th. g'luck to whoever is waiting.

Congratulations!!! Hopefully we'll get good news too.

I got the acceptance letter today too!! I interviewed on Feb. 20th.

So did I, which one of the interviewee were you?

I'm IN baby!! yayayayay!!

i called the adcom this afternoon and the lady said my letter was mailed friday and it was a "good one". so i called my mom and asked if i got any mail and she said no. so guess what was waitng for me when i got home?!? i love how my mom flat out LIED to me, but it's all good... this is the best feeling!

congrats chimebo (i knew you would get in!) and kry (i bet i talked to you on 2/20, i was making the stupid jokes!)

yay for us!!

first round is on me 😉

Congrats! That is so awesome! I'm happy for all of you!

On a selfish note...when I called Friday they said a letter went out but they couldn't tell me what it said....:scared: so it's probably not good...

But congrats to all three of you who interviewed on the 20th and got accepted..wow that's a lot of people from one day😀

hey U4iA,

your gf interviewed on 3/1 ..i was wondering what date was on her acceptance letter?

i called nycom today, and they said the committee didn't meet last week and she didn't know when they will meet. and i interviewed on the 3/2..so i donno...

She got the letter today, it was dated March 4th. She told me that during her interview the guy who was interviewing her started praising her almost immediately and told her that she didn't need to say anything more because she was going to be accepted. They went on to talk about random stuff that had nothing to do with medicine.

I, on the other hand, had an interview that was more typical of medical school admissions. I guess that's one of the perks of being female. Well, in her defense, she does have a much higher MCAT score than I do. So maybe my interview was more important in determining my ability to handle medical school..

Just so that you know, my letter was dated March 4th also. Maybe this info will help you figure out when the committee meets.

Hey vrazz,

I interviewed on 2/25 as well and I also called the adcom on Friday too, just to check on the status of my recommendation letters. All they told me was that my file was complete and that my "letter" had been mailed out that day. That was it. No hints or clues either way.

So still waiting at the door each day for signs of the mailman. Good luck to us all!! And congrats to everyone who's waiting is done.

I got my letter today...waitlisted. So I'll still be waiting. At least I got in somewhere else, but my heart was set on NYCOM. Anyone know anything about waitlists at NYCOM? I know Priority people go first, so why have a 'regular' waitlist? Does anyone know if people actually get off of the list?

Congrats again to all that got accepted!!!!

just wondering if NYCOM sents out any rejection letters. did anyone hear of someone that got rejected after an interview?

I know that nycom does send out rejection letters post-interview because a good friend of mine has been recently rejected by nycom a month after his interview. I on the other hand hope to get off the priority waiting list. Good luck to all.

Well I called the admissions office today and the lady was pretty nice...she said that waitlists don't come into play usually until June, and that sometimes they exhaust the list and sometimes they don't use it at all...and it just depends. However, she says that they anticipate utilizing it this year, so keep your fingers crossed!

She also said that they DO reject people after the interviews, so take comfort in that (I did)!

Thanks for sharing that with us. I'm feeling a little better....

monalisa,
are you waitlisted too? good luck!
