well as of now it's COMP, i think location is a huge thing for me. but i'm still waiting to hear back from 4 allopathic schools, so i guess it's still up in the air. however, i really liked NYCOM when i interviewed there. they have really nice facilities and an outstanding matchlist, great school.

Hey guys and girls! 😀

My interview is April 20th at NYCOM.

I'm reviewing the previous questions posted from interview feedback, and I have a list of questions...maybe you all could help? 🙂

1) I'm a guy, and I am wondering what type of suit I should wear....go all black? go with a darker blue? what were you all wearing? and the others interviewing, what were they wearing? (I'd like to fit in and not stand out!)

2) Should I really be as nervous as I'm getting? 😕

3) I gather that most people are reporting a relaxed-type interview...more of a "get-to-know-you-better" type of setup. Is that how you all experienced it?

4) Is there anyone else reading this who is going to be interviewing on April 20th?

Thanks in advance to all who reply...and great big partyhat, cheesy-grins for those who are in :hardy: !!!

hey, how are ya, i'll try and answer your questions.
1. i wouldn't worry too much about the suit, just make sure your tie isn't too outrageous. i would stick with the classic setup, can't go wrong, either black or charcoal suit, white shirt, burgundy tie.

2. don't be nervous at all. the interview is extremely laid back.

3. yeah, thats true, it is more of a "get to know you" interview. my specific interviewer didn't ask me anything out of the blue, it was all very casual. just to let you know, i thought my interview at nycom was going to be a disaster, because i showed up to new york from cali at 7 in the morning, with a 9 am interview. i had no sleep on the plane and by the time i got to jfk, i wanted to shoot myself. in the end though, it all worked, i ended up getting in, but i withdrew my acceptance because i got into a more local school. anyway, i wish you all the best with your interview and i'm sure you'll do just fine and get in. if u have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask. peace.

just wondering if NYCOM sents out any rejection letters. did anyone hear of someone that got rejected after an interview?

I don't know if you interviewed, nerves79, but they give a packet of information on interview day. The very first page in the packet says that applicants are put into one of three categories "Accepted" "Waitlisted" or "Rejected."

With a ~75% acceptance level, there are probably few people rejected, but I can see how it would happen. I can also imagine that if someone was rejected, they probably wouldn't be willing to let everyone know.

Hope that answers your question.

For those who got accepted to NYCOM, was the letter thin or thick? Was it a packet? Thanks!

At this point since they are requesting the 2 deposits, it is probably a very large envelope including all the info for financial aid and all. Best of luck to you.

my acceptance letter was in a small, thin envelope with I think just 2 or 3 pieces of paper. my mom opened it up and called me to tell me I was accepted, but had I been the one opening it I would have been depressed because of the thin envelope.

mine was big, 8.5x11 envelope, it had a nycom folder with some school info and my acceptance letter in it.

I interviewed on the 20th of April, making it 16 days tomorrow, and I have not received a letter. Should I call to ask the status of my letter being sent? or (impatiently) wait a few more days? 😕

I would just put in a friendly call to see what the status of your application is. Those who were accepted had to send in their second deposit (1,000$) by May 3rd. Admissions is probably figuring things out-who to accept, who to take off waitlist, etc... I withdrew my acceptance from NYCOM, so I know that there is at least one spot now open. best of luck. :0)

Thank you for the suggestion. On the interview day, they told us if we were accepted, we would be required to pay the full $1,500 deposit. It's a good thing my job pays me decently! 🙂

Anybody Hear Who Was Interview In April. Thanks

I interviewed in april and no response as of yet! what day did you interview?

End of April, the 20th. I still haven't heard a word and I know some peeps from my interview group were already accepted.

im not totally sure but nycom receives a ridiculous amount of applications. I go to nycom, but I was unaware of the two waitlists in effect. I know kids get admitted off the waitlist pretty well into the summer and upto a few days before orientation. hope that helps.. need anything else pm me

Hi
I just called NYCOM since I am on the priority waitlist to see what the status was... and they said they will start looking at the waitlist next month (July!).. this a ridiculous amount of waiting..

viswanad,

If you don't mind me asking, who gave you this information? I am also on the priority waiting list and (I think it was) Ms. Zaika from admissions told me that they look at the waiting list sometime June-July. She made it sound more like mid-late June and then July and according to you, it's definetely July. That doesn't exactly leave us enough time to find apartments given our getting off the waiting list. Good luck.

Hi Dmitryny,
I got the info the other day from Ellen who I guess is the secretary there. I was surprised as well because I have been hearing June before but they said NYCOM typically accepts students very late into the summer and she does'nt anticipate the committee to meet till July.

I hope she is wrong because I need to know! If you don't get in, are you set on SGU?

each i guess. But I would very much rather go to nycom. thanks

the waitlist can go as long as teh weekend before orientation- happend to a girl i konw form last years class... sorry guys, but at least its hope..li know waitin sux

If you ask me, waiting until july to look into your waiting list is not right. Logically, after May 15 (time of the 1,000 deposit), nycom knows who will attend their school. So, they know how many people they need to take off waiting list. Why wait two more months? Another reason is that nycom has no dorms and it's hard to find apartments on long island around the campus. So, if you get off the waiting list a couple of weeks before orientation, it doesn't really give you enough time to find a place. I really think that by early to mid june they should be able to look into the waiting list and figure out their full class of 2008.

What's the verbiage on the "Waitlist" letters? I interviewed in April, and I recieved an "Accept-Hold" status. It says, "...found you to be an acceptable candidate, but at the present time the class is filled. Therefore, your name has been placed on our ACCEPT-HOLD list for priority consideration as openings develop." Does this mean I'm on the waitlist? I need someone to confirm that I'm accpeted, provided someone gives up their seat. I also want to know if this verbiage matches anyone's waitlist designation. Thanks in advance for replying.

I interviewed in November and in January I received the following letter:

"I wish to advise you that you have been placed on the Priority Wait List. What this means is that you have been found to be an addeptable candidate, but we don't have any available seats at this time. Your application will be rereviewed for priority consideration as openings occur later in the processing cycle. Please note that the Priority Wait list is not ranked at this time."

I called them sometime in the spring and they told me that my chances of being accepted were good because it was only me and a couple other students on the priority waiting list. Given the previous post by drfting sun, I guess he would have priority over me if a spot opens up.

I really hope I get in, I want to stay in NY.

from what I understand a priority list is like... ok we want you but we took our limit of students already and are waiting to see if any decide to go to another one of the schools that took them

i interviewed in april and just last week got the acceptance package, i didnt get any hold letter!

Way to go, Guy6! You're on your way to being a doc!

Given enough people declining, I will also get an acceptance package! 😀

Thanks, good luck to you! 😉 😉

Guy6,

Were you waitlisted at nycom?

bumpty bumpty bump.

Any news regarding nycom's waitlist movement?
Come on, some of you out there have to drop out of spots to go somewhere else. Just be kind and give me your spot. 🙂 🙂

Still haven't received a letter asking me to come to NYCOM. It's only less than a week after they received my reply saying "keep me on the list and send me a package when a seat opens up." So, the way progress unfolds, I anticipate another 2 weeks before I get anything in the mail.

I've got the $1500 deposit ready, and it will go in the mail the day I get my package.

Has anyone on the Accept-Hold list, or the Priority Waitlist heard anything recently about seats opening? Has anyone given up their seat late in June? Is anyone going to give up their seat soon? 🙂

I have yet to receive anything. I called on 7/6, but was only told "nothing has changed since we sent you the first letter."

Just trying to get a glimmer of hope here that movement is occurring.

I on the priority waitlist and have heard nothing. I am quite surprised with the lack of movement seeing that the class size is so big. Hopefully, there will be significant movement over the next couple of weeks because I really want to stay in NY. Good luck to all of you.
